Needham named chief tech officer
Bill Needham, M.B.A. ’98, is the new chief technology officer at RevSpring. In this newly created role, Needham will be responsible for the development of RevSpring’s customer-facing technology solutions and platform.
Needham previously served as Vice President, Technology and Development at Wellness & Prevention, a Johnson & Johnson company. His career has also included stops at Thomson Reuters Healthcare and Fair Isaac, where he helped drive customer-oriented technology solutions.
Landstrom appointed principal in Naperville
Allison Landstrom, M.S.Ed. ’96, was appointed principal of Peterson Elementary School in Naperville, Illinois.
Landstrom has worked for Indian Prairie School District 204 since 1995, first as an elementary school teacher and instructional interventionist, and most recently as an instructional specialist. She received National Board Certification in 2002.
Swanner named assistant principal
Joshua Swanner, ’05, has been appointed the new assistant principal of The Skokie School in Winnetka Public Schools District 36. He will begin his new role on Aug. 1.
Swanner has been a social studies teacher at Carleton Washburne School since 2010. In addition to his teaching role, he has served as a team leader, adviser and social studies curriculum committee member. Swanner also spearheaded creative new student projects and demonstrated strong leadership while collaborating with his Washburne colleagues.
Vogel named principal of junior high school
Jon Vogel, M.S.Ed. ’01, was named the new principal of Washington Junior High School in Naperville. He was previously principal of White Eagle Elementary School in Naperville.
He is pursuing a doctoral degree at NIU.
Wade joins city staff in Prospect Heights
Joe Wade, ’82, M.P.A. ’84, is the new city administrator of Prospect Heights, Illinois.
Wade, who comes to the city after serving in administrative roles in Carpentersville and Morton Grove, started his new job June 8 and has been trying to learn the community as quickly as possible. He was hired from a field of 38 applicants for the job that’s been vacant since June 2014.
Ewing takes job with energy company
Aventine Renewable Energy Inc. has appointed Jeff Ewing, M.S. ’94, as director of risk management marketing for the company’s four ethanol plants. Aventine has plants in Pekin, Illinois, and Aurora, Nebraska.
Ewing was previously director of trading and hedging with Abengoa Bioenergy in Chesterfield, Missouri.
Napoleon Welch to work for library association
Melanie Napoleon Welch, M.S. ’98, joined the American Library Association Public Programs Office as project director on June 15. She will build partnerships and oversee programs to bring grant funding, traveling exhibitions and educational programming to libraries.
Previously, Napoleon Welch was associate director of Freshwater Future, a nonprofit that advocates for clean waters in the Great Lakes. Previous positions include project leadership roles with the Conservation Alliance for Seafood Solutions, John G. Shedd Aquarium and Peggy Notebaert Nature Museum.
Hazlewood appointed to nonprofit board
Dale Hazlewood, ’92, ’94, was appointed the board of the Farmers Market Coalition, a national nonprofit membership organization based in Iowa. Hazlewood is a special event coordinator for the city of Aurora, Illinois, and is manager of that city’s farmers market, the oldest continuously-operating market in Illinois.
He also works as a special projects coordinator for Chicago & Beyond and sits on the board of the Illinois Farmers Market Association.
Almazan appointed to school board
Tomas Almazan, ’88, was appointed to fill a vacancy on the Cook County School District 130 Board of Education. He will serve the remainder of his predecessor’s unexpired term, which ends in April 2017.
Almazan is a financial analyst for AT&T, and is a coach and coordinator for a youth soccer program.
Miller named Outstanding Faculty Member
Chris Miller, ’97, M.A. ’99, an associate professor of speech at College of DuPage in Illinois, was named Overall Outstanding Faculty Member for 2014-2015.
Miller will receive a $1,000 award from the College of DuPage Foundation, which annually recognizes outstanding teaching achievement.
