Good morning!

We had such an amazing time on our little anniversary getaway.  It was definitely one of those trips where we could have easily stayed another day.  So relaxing and such fun things to do in the area we were in.  I’ll get more into the details of what we did tomorrow but for today since it’s Wednesday, I figured I’d join the WIAW party and share our vacation eats!

As always, thanks to the lovely Jenn for hosting!

Sunday morning we said goodbye to our little Love Nugget and headed to the Sonoma Valley for our belated anniversary celebration.   We usually stay in the Healdsburg area but decided to switch things up and go to Guerneville which is a little town on along the Russian River heading towards the coast.  On the way over we made a pit stop in the Sonoma Square for lunch at Sunflower Cafe.

I got a lavender Sparkling cocktail with a smoked salmon and strawberry salad.  We’ve eaten there before and remembered it being pretty good but this time it was just okay.

After a few wine tasting stops and finishing our drive we arrived at The Sonoma Orchid Inn where we’d be staying for the next few days.  After getting settled, we fixed ourselves a little snack plate and enjoyed a few glasses of wine while relaxing on their patio.

That night we headed to a restaurant called Boon that came highly recommended by a friend as well as the Inn owners.

AND it did not disappoint!  Delicious!  I almost wanted to go back the next day for round two!

The next morning we enjoyed breakfast while mingling with a few other guests in the main dining room.

Breakfast was fresh fruit (including freshly picked blackberries), ham steaks and a french toast casserole.  I tried some of the casserole and it was very tasty!  So much so that the Hubby had himself several helpings.  He waned to ask for a to go bag!

A little later and after a nice hike through the Redwoods I sipped on a Chai Tea Latte with Almond Milk and a Skout Bar.

I just got these the other day and so far have only tried two but they are delicious!  Stay tuned for a review coming soon!

We decided to hit up a few wineries the rest of the afternoon since we were in wine country!

Lunch was some turkey jerky and blue diamond almond crackers while driving around then a few sips of beer and veggies from the hubby’s chicken finger plate at a brewery we stopping at.

Then upon returning to the Inn we enjoyed a freshly baked cookie or two

Obviously my little sugar detox I mentioned last Sunday didn’t really happen  Who could resist  freshly baked White Chocolate Cranberry cookies that have won several awards?  Or the soft, warm, Chewy Chocolate Chip cookies?  Luckily my hubby is the Cookie Monster and doesn’t mind eating the rest of my cookies after I have a bite

Before dinner that night, we enjoyed a glass of champagne and strawberries before heading off to dinner.

This time we drove into Santa Rosa to Willie’s Wine Bar which also came highly recommended.

Once again, it did not disappoint! Tapas style are my favorite type of restaurants as you get to taste more dishes.  We shared the roasted balsamic carrots, Goat Cheese Fritters with roasted tomatoes and local honey, Duck Breast over White Cheddar Polenta, and Ahi Tuna Tartar.  We also enjoyed a few samplings of some really yummy wine!  Again, I like to sample so their wine flights were right up my alley!  We ended the evening with some froyo of course!  Salted Caramel with a few Heath Bar Chunks.  Sugar overload for sure but it was good!

The next morning we enjoyed another yummy breakfast before saying goodbye and heading on our way.

Served up was a zucchini quiche with farm fresh eggs from their chickens, freshly baked biscuits and homemade apricot jam, chicken apple sausage, and fresh fruit.  Both days I ate my weight in fresh fruit!  So good!

After picking up The Love Nugget, we made a quick stop for lunch at Granzella’s in Williams where he and I shared the worst $10 salad bar ever.

Granzella’s is famous for their olives and has always been a family favorite stop while on our road trips.  I grew up stopping here for their huge and delicious deli sandwiches, olive tastings and other goodies.  However, in the past few years it has majorly gone downhill in my opinion.  Their salad bar consists of iceberg lettuce, store bought potato salad, a few veggies, olive mix, some cooked items like mashed potatoes and chicken fried steak (blah!) that had been sitting out WAY too long and a soup.  The Hubby got a deli sandwich that was $8 and also a major disappointment.  So unfortunate that something that was once so good is so sub-par now

That’s it for our vacation eats!  Now it’s time to hit up the gym and work off some of those indulgences!
