Sokoto state Governor, Aminu Tambuwal has revealed plans to employ 500 teachers to be deployed to secondary schools across the state at the opening of Teacher Professional Development Programme on Early Grade Reading.

His words: “The recruitment exercise is aimed at filling the gap in the Science and Technical needs of the state.

“Sokoto state government will continue to partner and collaborate with the USAID-supported Northern Education Initiative Plus, in enhancing teachers professional development in the state.”

The governor stressed that the government would also collaborate with other partners to ”surmount the hurdles and impediments threatening the basic education system.”

He listed the impediments to includes “low enrolment, retention and completion of schools and poor early-grade reading opportunities.”

Earlier, the Commissioner of Basic and Secondary Education, Dr Jabbi Kilgori, said the administration was committed to revitalizing the education sector.

In his address, the Secretary of the State Universal Basic Education Board, Alhaji Faruk Shehu, thanked the government for its support to the board, which enabled it to successfully discharge its mandate.
