Hello, hello. Have you been enjoying the sunshine over the last few weeks? It sure has got me thinking about summer, and how I am going to fill those long lazy months. Personally I love a holiday. A holiday to me is an experience which offers a respite from my usual routine. A time to forget about the dishes and the messy toy box, and just enjoy life with the people I cherish most. Of course now that I have young children I have to make sure that I have really done my research before booking a holiday. And I have been researching a family trip to Dubai. I know; it’s perhaps not the traditional choice, but I am convinced that Dubai could be the most perfect holiday destination for my little family.
I will explain about the competition later, but first I want to share with you some really cool activities I found, that I would love to experience with my husband and two boys, Lewis (6) and Aaron (2).
5 Activities to Enjoy on A Family Trip to Dubai
1. Dolphin Bay
Dubai is undoubtedly hot. In the summer temperatures are regularly in the 30’s, but a great way to ensure the family doesn’t overheat is to visit one of the many water based parks. My first choice would be Dolphin Bay at the Atlantis. The opportunity to get up close and personal with these amazing animals is truly the stuff of dreams. What I love is that this park makes that possible from shallow water, ensuring that everyone in the family can join in, no matter what their age. Or for the more adventurous, you could go scuba diving with Dolphins. Can you even imagine it? Entry also allows access to Aquaventure Waterpark and Aquaventure beach, so it’s a winning combination.
2. Mattel Play Town
If you do find you need to get the kids out of the sun Dubai has solutions for that too. There are a selection of kids play centres which have a foundation in encouraging education through play. My kids are 2 and 6 so I decided that the Mattel Play Town would be the perfect place for them to visit. With favourite characters such as Angelina Ballerina, and Thomas the Tank Engine, this themed Park provides hours of interactive entertainment for children aged 2-10.
3. Blue Orange Dubai
When is lunch? What’s for dinner? All that playing will certainly build up an appetite! If there is one thing that I know for sure, it is that food has to be a consideration when taking children abroad. Dubai delivers with a huge variety of restaurants and cafes to suit every taste. The great thing is that many are family friendly and some like the Blue Orange can even provide time out for you, by entertaining your children while you enjoy a more relaxed meal. The biggest problem would be deciding when to dine, as there are many themed nights available. For me, the Thursday night Lobster BBQ sounds particularly appealing. Yummy!
4. The Fountain
When I think of Dubai I cannot help but think of the infamous Dubai Fountain. This work of art is a free water display, with daily shows, where the water dances along to accompanying music. There is undoubtedly something about the movement of water which is captivating. Even a small domestic fountain can hold my children’s attention, so I think the Dubai Fountain’s display of water jetting as tall as a tower block, would absolutely enthrall them, and us adults too!
5. Go on a Safari
My last activity is a trip to the desert. If you really want to go on holiday to somewhere different, then I think it is important to try and learn about the area. See as much as possible, and immerse yourself in a little bit of local culture and history. In Dubai there is a huge selection of organised tours and safari’s available, which can help you do just that. One such company is Arabia Horizons Tours. They have adventures for everyone, from the young traveller to the adrenaline junkie. For my family the evening desert safari with BBQ dinner has to be the tour of choice. This involves travelling in a jeep, through the golden sands, to the heart of the desert. Then you arrive at a Bedouin desert camp for an evening of traditional entertainment, such as belly dancing, and a buffet dinner. And this tour is in the late afternoon / evening, so the cooler temperatures would be perfect.
Okay. That’s it. I’m off to pack my bags!
