...Albert City Council approved two new reports that will be integrated into Servus Place – A Plan for the Future and used as the planning framework for the renovation and expansion of Servus Place.

The two reports, Servus Credit Union Place – A Plan for the Future Public Consultation Report and Servus Place Revised Plan, are based upon consultations with Servus Place members, users and City residents and identifies the need for Servus Place renovation and expansion. While Council approved the planning framework at the City Council meeting on March 18, 2013, further analysis is required before the plans can be submitted for future budget considerations.

...“Public consultation confirmed that optimizing current space through renovation and expansion of other areas as needed will help meet the growing demands of users and support the future growth of the city.”

...Since opening, Servus Place has seen a significant increase in users, with an average of 2,750 individuals per day or approximately one million users per year. A Plan for the Future focuses on programming and services, capitalizing on the immediate opportunities of strategic facility space optimization and addressing long-term expansion needs.

During the public consultation process (October 1 to December 1, 2012), 89 per cent of respondents indicated either clear support or support with suggested adjustments for the conceptual plan for the following reasons:

...Phase One: The first phase would include significant renovation to the fitness centre and second floor concourse with about 5,000 square feet (464 square metres) of new construction to build out the front entrance to expand the fitness floor space, relocate the locker rooms and relocate the meeting rooms.

...The proposed Phase One renovation is based on conceptual plans with allowances built in for design/scope contingency (10 per cent); escalation allowance (two years at 4 per cent) and construction contingency (10 per cent) are is estimated at $10.4 million.

...As close as I can tell, we still have about 13 years remaining to pay off the initial cost and they want to spend almost 75 percent more of the original cost to upgrade it.

...If it isn't, it opens the door for the future council to proceed without taxpayer approval and that kind of BS has to be stopped in its tracks.
