As a step toward increasing the safety of cycling and advocating for the rights of cyclists, we are pleased to announce a partnership between the Bike Law Network of Independent Bicycle Attorneys and USA Cycling. This partnership aims to provide USA Cycling’s members with not only a place to turn if cycling-related legal assistance is needed, but also with information, education, and increased awareness of cycling laws, legal reform, and bicycle advocacy.

Bike Law is not a law firm, but a growing national network of independent lawyers who are cyclists, and cycling advocates. Since its founding in Charleston, SC in 1998, it has grown to include lawyers representing cyclists and promoting cycling in 22 states (with more to come) and Canada.

USA Cycling is the national governing body for the sport of cycling in the United States and has the mission to both grow the sport of cycling and help America’s elite cyclists succeed on the international stage. It is launching a range of initiatives this year designed to improve the safety of cycling, a cause of great concern to its members.

Bike Law will provide USA Cycling members with exclusive benefits, including:

Priority initial consultation with a bike attorney within 24 hours and at no charge;

Reduced fees in bicycle crash cases for members;

On-going consultation for clubs on organizational legal issues at no-charge;

Speaking engagements on bicycle law to clubs at no-charge;

Priority consideration for pro bono legal representation by the Bike Law Defense League to advance cycling justice.

According to Bike Law founder Peter Wilborn, “This Partnership aims to provide leadership on cycling legal issues. USA Cycling is uniquely positioned to be a strong voice and advocate for the sport of cycling, and Bike Law will give the organization, members and clubs the legal tools and know-how to do so.”

USA Cycling CEO Derek Bouchard-Hall commented, “This is a double win for USA Cycling members. Bike Law’s national network provides a place for our members to turn in the event they require cycling-related legal assistance, and our community can now better drive cycling advocacy efforts with a partner who is uniquely knowledgeable and passionate about cyclists’ rights and cycling safety.”
