A hand picked selection of the best things to eat, drink, see, and dance to this week.

See An Art Show

Grab a Julep at the bar at Festival before heading upstairs to art space Dinámica (Gorriti 5741) which will be inaugurating their September show this Wednesday. Espero is a joint show between artists and friends Séverine Hubard and Pablo Rosales, who create art installations with objects found in the street. On Thursday, the artist taller Yapeyú (Yapeyú 395) will be showing a film projection that highlights the work of twelve contemporary Belgian photographers with live musical accompaniment. Friday night check out two walking distance-ish shows at Ruby (Cespedes 3065) and Diagonal Espacio (Conde 2147). The former is a collection of engravings by multimedia artist Geraldine Schwindt, the latter is a solo show titled El rayo y la arena by painter Veronica Calfat. Saturday night is host to another collective photography show, TARDE, at Hiedra (Guevara 202) with works by more than 21 artists.

Catch a Film

If you want to be able to chime in on party small talk, you better go see Pablo Trapero’s new film The Clan. Like now. Not only did it surpass the record breaking ticket sales of last year’s Relatos salvajes, it has the highest box office opening in Argentine history. This Dirty War era film tells the true story a San Isidro family that kidnapped and murdered wealthy people for ransom and stars the other Argentine acting giant (osea, not Darín) Guillermo Francella; expect this movie to be El secreto de sus ojos big. You can check the movie out at movie theaters across the city, but be sure to take advantage of the $8 ticket at the Gaumont (Av. Rivadavia 1635). Wim Wender’s documentary about Brazilian photographer Sebastião Salgado, The Salt of the Earth, opened last Thursday in theaters across the city. Check out the breathtaking trailer below and tell us this isn’t a must see on a big screen. For fans of Bernardo Bertolucci, el Teatro San Martin (Av. Corrientes 1530) will be playing Novecento, a story about two Italian boys both born on the first day of the twentieth century, this Tuesday and Wednesday.

Be a Tourist

Buenos Aires Art Tours is kicking off their Palermo Gallery Tour this week on Tuesday and Friday. The 3 hour tour hops from Villa Crespo to Chacarita and into Palermo Hollywood and Soho to visit 7 different galleries with some special behind the scenes treatment from gallery owners and curators. For tango enthusiasts, the beautiful Edificio de la Munich (Av. de los Italianos 851) in Puerto Madero gives tango classes every Saturday at 6pm for just 10 pesos.

Eat Good Food

MASA, the closed door taco haven, will be returning after a brief hiatus to a new Almagro planta baja. The intimate supper club seats 8 guests at one table for a familial feeling dinner, and up on this week’s menu are green curry carnitas. For the next two weeks, Irish chef Ed Holloway and sommelier Andrés Rosberg will be offering a 6 course tasting menu with wine pairings at the beautiful UCO (Soler 5862) restaurant at the Fierro Hotel. Check the full menu here. Or try an equally fancy plan b at Osaka (Soler 5608), which has just recently released a new Sunday brunch menu with four different options that highlight their excellent nikkei and sushi skills and add creative twists to traditional brunch items like waffles topped with confit duck. El Petit Mercado (Gorriti 5417) will be celebrating two years of their awesome weekend food fairs this Sunday at their regular spot El Galpón from noon to 8pm.

Let’s Party

This weekend seems heavy on the concerts, and light on the dance parties but two reliable weekly parties are here to fall back on. Wednesday night Palermo staple Rocking Rio (Honduras 4772) welcomes back Rio veteran Andii Diedisheii and newbie Rocío Crudo. Fiesta Undertones is kicking off a special edition of their regular Saturday night at Niceto (Niceto 5510) party with music collective Surubeat, we’re looking forward to the dj set by Los Animales Superforros.

Check Out A Show

Lots of good indie rock concerts going on this week. On Thursday night, the Hurricane Heart Attacks will be playing their atmospheric rock and roll inspired songs alongside Niños del parque and Riel at Beat Flow (Av. Cordoba 5509). The La Plata based indie popsters 107 Faunos are bringing back their Creo que te amo party with a free show this Friday at Mod (Balcarce 563). If you’re lucky you might be able to still grab tickets to the Iron & Wine show this Saturday at Niceto. If you feel like dancing to some chamame inspired tunes, check out La Yegros this Thursday at Caras and Caretas (Sarmiento 2037), or bang your head along to the girl punk band Las Kellies at the very divey (like really divey) Espacio Cultural Mi Casa (Aguero 787) on Saturday.

Is there anything we missed? Let us know what you are up to this week in the comments.
