TheCoal System Specialistis responsible for operating mobile heavy equipment and process machinery to reclaim, stockpile, and compact coal at Colorado Springs Utilities Martin Drake Power Plant in Colorado Springs. Use your excellent experience, work ethic and knowledge of material handling process machinery and mobile heavy equipment operation in a high functioning team oriented atmosphere to contribute to the mission of the Drake coal handling team.
This position requires the successful applicant to work a shift that requires Wednesday through Saturday coverage. This also covers any holidays that might fall within this schedule. This position does require the successful candidate to possibly work standby and overtime as needed as well as provide coverage 24/7/365 for the power plant.
Typical Responsibilities:
* Inspecting, troubleshooting and repairing coal conveying and ash unloading equipment
* Dozing, hauling and compacting coal
* Operating specialized mobile coal handling equipment to unload, haul and reclaim coal.
* Performing preventive maintenance on coal and ash handling process machinery.
* Operating Union Pacific road locomotives to facilitate unit train unloading
* Operating and maintaining equipment used to transport and dispose of fly and bottom ash
* Assuring compliance with environmental, safety standards and regulations
* Complying with the safety and health program in support of an incident and injury free workplace
Therefore Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities we seek include:
* Operating mobile heavy equipment
* Conducting Pre and Post mobile heavy equipment inspection and operation, process machinery daily inspections and operation, troubleshooting skills and minor maintenance procedures
* Material handling feeding, weighing, crushing, conveying, sampling procedures
* Material handling process, rail yard and mobile heavy equipment safety procedures
* Operating knowledge of feeding, weighing, crushing, conveying, sampling and other industrial machinery
* Housekeeping skills including process area wash downs and spill cleanup
* Ability to maintain cooperative working relationships and eliminate barriers to teamwork
* Ability to maintain compliance with company policies and procedures
Minimum Experience Required: Most people in this occupation would have completed one year of heavy equipment operation in a construction or plant environment. Experience with the following mobile heavy equipment is preferred: CAT 854K rubber tire dozer, 637Gscrapers, Front end loaders, off highway water truck, coal crushing, conveying and sampling system equipment.
Typical Licensing/Certification Requirements: Commercial Driver’s License Class A, or incumbent will be required to obtain CDL class 'A' license within 1 (one) year from of date of hire.
Physical Requirements and Working Conditions: Positions in this class typically require: climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, reaching, walking, lifting, grasping, talking, hearing and seeing. Incumbents may be subjected to moving and rotating mechanical parts, vibrations, fumes, odors, dust, gases, poor ventilation, extreme temperatures, inadequate lighting and intense noises. Medium Work: Exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 20 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects.
Please Note: This position is under the U.S. Department of Transportation, Research and Special Programs Administration (RSPA). As a result, if the selected applicant is not currently in a RSPA covered position, they will be subject to a drug test prior to appointment/reassignment and continual random drug and alcohol testing.
