Position Summary Provides quality Customer service by effectively communicating with Customers to answer questions, locates merchandise, and provides requested assistance concerning prices, freshness, quality, ingredients, and variety of bakery merchandise.
Position Responsibilities Communicates effectively with the Manager and reviews the Production Sheet to understand the daily variety of bakery items to be baked, finished, and packaged. Operates and utilizes food preparation equipment, such as bread slicers, baking ovens, bread proofers, donut machines, scales, and supporting equipment, such as knives, forks, dishwasher, and cleaning utensils in preparation of Bakery merchandise. Communicates and responds effectively to Customer questions, locates merchandise, and provides requested assistance on Bakery Department merchandise. Requested assistance may also include information on product freshness, ingredients, availability, and help in placing special orders for cakes and Bakery Department merchandise, such as flavor, icing type, and decorations. Answers phone and takes special orders for cakes and other bakery items from Customers. Ensures a safe and clean environment by maintaining safety standards, maintenance, and cleanliness as required by department by cleaning preparation area, freezers, coolers, and floors, using appropriate cleaning solutions and chemicals. Monitors area for signs of shrink and potential security risks, such as merchandise being discarded and not recorded, product consumed, and exceptions in dating and temperature, and contacts proper level of management and/or In-Store Loss Prevention when problems are identified. Merchandising Maintains the overall appearance of the Bakery Department area by keeping merchandise and displays fully stocked, properly signed, neat, clean, and organized. Follows established procedures, to process damaged goods, merchandise left behind, and outdated bakery merchandise. Adheres to standards and policies for product storage, product rotation, sell-by dates, and expiration dates, including identifying and removing bakery merchandise that is distressed or unacceptable in appearance to ensure quality and freshness. Maintains in-stock by properly receiving and stocking bakery merchandise on racks, shelves, and displays, including regularly retrieving proper merchandise from the bakery freezer/cooler; placing the merchandise on facility carts to transport merchandise to the sales floor; and taking merchandise to Claims Department following Company rotation procedures and quality expectations. Demonstrates dependability and reliability by being punctual, working assigned shifts, and completing responsibilities in a timely manner. Interacts politely and effectively with Customers and Associates by representing Wal-Mart Culture, including the Ten Foot and Sundown Rules. The Associate will provide additional job-related responsibilities and duties throughout the facility as assigned and/or as necessary.
Qualifications Ability to adapt to and work effectively in various parts of the facility. Ability to complete mathematical computations, including addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division. Ability to interact and communicate effectively with Customers, Associates, and Suppliers. Ability to learn more about merchandise and utilize product information to meet Customer needs. Ability to prioritize work assignments and complete duties within established work routines and procedures. Ability to read, write, and understand printed material, including instructions for preparation of bakery merchandise. Ability to stock and display merchandise in accordance with Company guidelines. Knowledge of and ability to apply Company and department policies and procedures. Knowledge of bakery merchandise, such as availability, quality, shelf life, ingredients, and usages.
Physical Demands Stocking, zoning, labeling, pricing, and organizing merchandise in accordance with Company guidelines; and using fine motor skills to grasp, turn, and manipulate labeling and pricing equipment. Placing items in their correct locations, which may include reaching overhead or below knee level and bending, twisting, or stooping; routinely working in an area requiring exposure to extreme temperatures; while moving within the facility over uneven surfaces and up and down a ladder, frequently lifting, sorting, carrying, and placing merchandise and supplies of varying sizes weighing up to 50 pounds without assistance and over 50 pounds with team lifting. Maintaining a safe and clean work environment, including the potential use of chemicals; and adhering to food safety and handling procedures and following sanitation and cleaning procedures during the preparation and serving of bakery merchandise. Prepares baked merchandise according to Company guidelines for baking timelines and visual appearance, Reading, writing, and visually verifying product quality and small print in various media. Grasping, pushing, and pulling merchandise utilizing various kitchen utensils and equipment such as knives, oven, dishwasher, and bread proofers and slicers.
