This weekend was the sixth round of the ACU Maxxis British Motocross Championship at quite possibly one of the toughest tracks in the UK. We took the three hour trip to Fatcat Moto Parc in Doncaster; to arrive at an awesome prepared track with a new layout.
With everything looking good it was just the pilot that wasn’t in great shape. After a small crash, getting ran over hard last weekend I had debated all week on making an appearance for the sixth round this weekend but with the great help and support of a lot of my sponsors I decided to go out and give it a good go.
Qualifying wasn’t the best for me, only posting a few laps of both free practice and timed practice as I felt in a lot of discomfort with my back I posted a lap time good enough for twenty-sixth.
Knowing where I needed to get my speed from come moto one; I didn’t grab the best of starts but pushed hard within the first lap. Riding through the pain barrier I was happy to be sat just inside the points but soon found me picking the bike up after a midrace fall I fell out of the points. Getting back going and knuckling down I managed to fight my way back into the points to score one point for twentieth come the chequered flag.
After plenty of tiger balm being rubbed in between races moto 2 was soon round; and this time I made sure I grabbed a better start which was successful making some good passes and having some real intense battles I ended the race in sixteenth spot.
Moto three and the finale of the day, with the track being so rough it was going to be so hard for me to push the pain barrier. Again grabbing a much better start and crossing the flag twelfth after lap one I set on trying to maintain this position to tag along with the quicker guys. Being closely involved with a big crash I went off to the track to avoid crashing myself. Dropping back to twentiethin this one hick up I had it all to do again. Pushing back through the pack up to thirteenth with two laps to go I made two silly mistakes which didn’t help with the injury I was carry to eventually finish up a solid sixteenth position for the second time.
With these three point scoring rides I ended the day with eighteenth overall. This not being too bad after the week I have had and the pain on the day! My aim now is to get back healthy and move on to the next round fighting fit.
Thank you to everyone for their continued support and Roland Shaw from Hardcore racing for the help on race day. Catch you all again soon! #95
