HMV’s tumble into administration earlier this year was well-documented, with many blaming the retailer’s reluctance to embrace the digital age for its decline.

Battling against the likes of Apple and Amazon – both with fully-fledged digital download stores - the brick and mortar chain nearly ended in demise.

However, since being saved by Hilco, HMV has introduced its first proper foray into the online world with an a la carte digital download app.

Proving hugely popular, the app passed 5,000 downloads from Apple’s App Store in just a few days since its launch (Thursday, October 17).

But the move hasn’t been without complication: the iOS version of HMV’s new digital music app has since been 'temporarily' removed from the App Store.

While Apple haven’t commented on the story, sources suggest the tech giant doesn’t like the fact that the app allows users to purchase tracks and albums from HMV and then download them straight into iTunes on their mobile device - effectively competing with Apple's own iTunes Store.

Android have no such grievances.
