The American Society of Composers, Authors and Publishers (ASCAP) hosted its 28th annual Film & Television Music Awards in Los Angeles, with the ceremony paying tribute to composer Patrick Doyle and composer-arranger Ray Charles, and honored composers of the top box office film music, the most performed television music and the top video game music of 2012.
ASCAP president and chairman Paul Williams and president of Feature Post Production at 20th Century Fox Ted Gagliano presented the ASCAP Henry Mancini Award to Golden Globe and Oscar-nominated composer Patrick Doyle in recognition of his outstanding achievements and contributions to the world of film and television music.
Doyle, a classically trained composer of film, television, theatre and radio, has been commissioned to score over 50 international feature films, including Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire, Gosford Park, Sense and Sensibility, Indochine, Carlito’s Way and A Little Princess. His work has led to collaborations with some of the most acclaimed directors in the world, such as Sir Kenneth Branagh, Régis Wargnier, Brian De Palma, Alfonso Cuaròn, Ang Lee, Chen Kaige, Mike Newell and Robert Altman. He is a member of the UK’s PRS for Music and has his repertory licensed by ASCAP in the US. Previous recipients of the Henry Mancini Award include Angelo Badalamenti, Bruce Broughton, Carter Burwell, John Debney, Quincy Jones, Michel Legrand, Randy Newman, James Newton Howard, Johnny Mandel, Trevor Rabin, Marc Shaiman, Howard Shore and Hans Zimmer.
Composer-arranger Ray Charles was presented with the ASCAP Foundation Life in Music Award for his outstanding accomplishments as a composer and arranger of music for radio and television. The award was presented by Paul Williams along with Frank Oz, a film director and the creator of such characters as Miss Piggy, Fozzie Bear and Cookie Monster, among many others.
As well as several live performances, the evening also included a tribute to former ASCAP president and board member Hal David, who passed away in 2012.

The Top Video Game Award went to Trent Reznor and Jack Wall, who composed the music to Call of Duty 2: Black Ops 2, the best-selling video game of 2012.
