As we approach the day in which we commemorate Christ’s birth, I am reminded of a quote by John Quincy Adams. On July 4, 1837, he spoke these words: “Why is it that, next to the birthday of the Savior of the world, your most joyous and most venerated festival returns on this day?…

Is it not that, in the chain of human events, the birthday of the nation is indissolubly linked with the birthday of the Savior? That it forms a leading event in the progress of the Gospel dispensation? Is it not that the Declaration of Independence first organized the social compact on the foundation of the Redeemer’s mission upon earth? That it laid the cornerstone of human government upon the first precepts of Christianity, and gave to the world the first irrevocable pledge of the fulfillment of the prophecies, announced directly from Heaven at the birth of the Savior and predicted by the greatest of the Hebrew prophets six hundred years before?”
Adams was exactly right. The United States of America is the only nation in human history established by mostly Christian people, founded upon Biblical Natural Law principles, and dedicated to the purpose of religious and personal liberty and equal justice under the law for all men. This truth is easily observed within America’s earliest history.
The Second Amendment – Why Our Founding Fathers Wanted Us To Have Guns
America’s forebears first established a written covenant with God and each other as early as November 11, 1620, when they penned The Mayflower Compact. It states in part:
“In the name of God, Amen. . . . Having undertaken, for the Glory of God, and Advancement of the Christian Faith, and Honour of our King and Country, a voyage to plant the first colony in the northern parts of Virginia; do by these presents, solemnly and mutually in the Presence of God and one of another, covenant and combine ourselves together into a civil Body Politick, for our better Ordering and Preservation, and Furtherance of the Ends aforesaid; And by Virtue hereof to enact, constitute, and frame such just and equal Laws, Ordinances, Acts, Constitutions and Offices, from time to time, as shall be thought most meet and convenient for the General good of the Colony; unto which we promise all due submission and obedience.”
From the beginning, the sentiments and statements of America’s founders make it clear that this country has enjoyed a love and appreciation for the rights and freedoms recognized in Natural Law that are unique in the annals of human history. No other nation has such a heritage.
The Declaration of Independence states, “[Men] are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness.” It also states that these rights are “self-evident” and that they constitute the “Laws of Nature.” These principles are taken directly from the scriptures–and from Enlightenment fathers such as Locke and Montesquieu, who formed their writings from the scriptures.
The Law of Nature is described in Romans 2:14-16. That our Creator is the Author of life is seen in Genesis 2:7. That God, not government, grants liberty is seen in Galatians 5:1. The “pursuit of happiness” is found in Ecclesiastes 3:13.
Beyond that, virtually every one of the ten articles contained in the Bill of Rights has scriptural foundation. The First Amendment recognizes the Natural right of freedom of speech, religion, and assembly. Our founding documents properly established a government designed to “secure these rights.” Therefore, under the First Amendment, Christians (and others) are free to preach their faith and assemble for worship, as plainly instructed in Holy Writ.

Likewise, the Second Amendment has Biblical Natural Law foundation. Our Lord said in Luke 11:21, “When a strong man armed keepeth his palace, his goods are in peace.” In Luke 22:35, 36 He said, “He that hath no sword, let him sell his garment, and buy one.” The principle of armed self-defense is redundant throughout the scriptures in both testaments. Genesis 14, Esther 8 and 9, and Revelation 13:10 are good places to start. In fact, Revelation 13:10 is an extended commentary on the words of Jesus to Simon Peter in the Garden of Gethsemane when Christ told Peter to put up (not give up) his sword in Matthew 26:52. No passage of Scripture has been more egregiously misinterpreted (except Romans 13*) than this passage in Matthew.
It is truly incredible to me how many Christians do not understand the sacred duty of self-defense. Obviously, this is because America’s pastors are not teaching the principles of Natural Law as found in the scriptures.
I realize that there are many pastors and Christians who try to impugn the necessity of owning a firearm. These people are famous for saying things such as “God will take care of you; no one needs a gun.” Of course, these same people always condone police officers carrying guns and shooting people in self-defense–and if these pastors and Christians were in trouble, they would not hesitate to call a gun-toting policeman to come to their assistance (if they had time, of course). I never understood why it is that Christians who are not policemen are supposed to “trust God” to take care of them and, therefore, remain unarmed, but Christian police officers are somehow exempt from this same spiritual notion.
Beyond that, many pastors teach that Christians are obligated to obey civil authorities who demand that we surrender our firearms. They even quote Romans 13* and other scriptures in a lame attempt to prove this ludicrous assertion.
For these reasons, my attorney son and I collaborated on a book that takes the scriptures (Old and New Testaments–including the passages in Genesis 14, Esther 8, Matthew 26, and Revelation 13 referenced above) to prove that self-defense is not just a right under our Constitution, but it is a moral obligation given us by our Creator. In the book, we show that Christians who are unwilling to defend themselves and their families have actually denied the Christian faith. We show that the Bible nowhere teaches God’s people to remain defenseless or to surrender their means of self-defense to ANY civil authority.

In the book, we look at the scriptures that the “no gun” preachers use to support their “no one needs a gun” lunacy and show how unbiblical these positions are. We go through both testaments and show that our Creator has given us the obligation to defend the life He has given us. We also put to rest many of the distortions of Scripture that anti-gun preachers use to turn Christian men and women–who are created to be providers and protectors–into sheepish slaves of the state.
Yes, keeping and bearing arms is a spiritual duty. Defending oneself or family is as “spiritual” as praying or reading the Bible or any other “spiritual” exercise.

It is not only important to be armed; it is even more important to understand the moral and spiritual underpinnings of WHY we should be armed. And that is exactly what our book attempts to do.
Other articles contained in the Bill of Rights also have scriptural basis. For example, the Fourth Amendment is found in Deuteronomy 24:10, 11. The Eighth Amendment originates in Deuteronomy 15:2, 3. Again, these principles are “self-evident” truths which come from “the Laws of Nature and of Nature’s God.” Even the pattern for America’s constitutional form of government consisting of three distinct branches–legislative, executive, and judicial–is seen in Isaiah 33:22. America’s founders held a healthy distrust of monarchies, and for very good reason. Sinful man can only be trusted with limited power and authority. Only the LORD can be trusted with kingship over our lives, as Isaiah notes in the above reference. Accordingly, our country’s founders wisely separated the legislative, executive, and judicial branches of government in our U.S. Constitution.
The Most Meaningful Part of the U.S. Constitution, for the People, is the Bill of Rights
The signers of our Declaration of Independence could have never imagined that individual states and municipalities would deny their citizens the right to carry arms. They could have never dreamed that states would deny their citizens the right to be free from warrantless searches–a right that is violated every day throughout this country. They could have never imagined that the time would come when their posterity would be denied the basic freedoms to publicly express their reverence for God. Never could they have imagined that the day would come when citizens of the several sovereign states (each with a State constitution protecting religious liberty) would be denied their right to pray in school, place Nativity scenes on public property, or hang copies of the Ten Commandments on courthouse walls.
Many Churches are Lukewarm
I am also confident that America’s founders would be completely repulsed by the way the United States has jumped headlong into corporatism, socialism, and globalism. At the national level, Democrats and Republicans alike have created a central government so large that it would be unrecognizable to any founding father–even Alexander Hamilton or John Adams. Big Business sucks feverishly at the teat of Big Government; the major media has become little more than a propaganda ministry of Big Government; corporate 501c3 churches view Big Government as a god to be worshipped; and America (including and especially Christians and churches) seems to be drunk on the perpetual wars and entangling alliances of Big Government. Surely, our Founding Fathers must be turning over in their graves.
Therefore, at this Christmas season, let us recommit ourselves to our nation’s founding principles. Furthermore, let us renew with vigor the fight for freedom before our liberties and heritage disappear altogether.
Yes, John Quincy Adams was right. The birth of Christ and the birth of America are indissolubly linked.

Harrington writes, “There are now more non-military government employees who carry guns than there are U.S. Marines, according to a new report.

“Open the Books, a taxpayer watchdog group, released a study Wednesday [June 22, 2016] that finds domestic government agencies continue to grow their stockpiles of military-style weapons, as Democrats sat on the House floor calling for more restrictions on what guns American citizens can buy.
“The ‘Militarization of America’ report found civilian agencies spent $1.48 billion on guns, ammunition, and military-style equipment between 2006 and 2014. Examples include IRS agents with AR-15s, and EPA bureaucrats wearing camouflage.
“‘Regulatory enforcement within administrative agencies now carries the might of military-style equipment and weapons,’ Open the Books said. ‘For example, the Food and Drug Administration includes 183 armed “special agents,” a 50 percent increase over the ten years from 1998-2008. At Health and Human Services (HHS), “Special Office of Inspector General Agents” are now trained with sophisticated weaponry by the same contractors who train our military special forces troops.’
“Open the Books found there are now over 200,000 non-military federal officers with arrest and firearm authority, surpassing the 182,100 personnel who are actively serving in the U.S. Marine Corps.
“The IRS spent nearly $11 million on guns, ammunition, and military-style equipment for its 2,316 special agents. The tax collecting agency has billed taxpayers for pump-action and semi-automatic shotguns, semi-automatic Smith & Wesson M&P15s, and Heckler & Koch H&K 416 rifles, which can be loaded with 30-round magazines.
“The EPA spent $3.1 million on guns, ammo, and equipment, including drones, night vision, ‘camouflage and other deceptive equipment,’ and body armor.”
Harrington continues, “Open the Books appealed to both liberals like Bernie Sanders–who has called for demilitarizing local police departments–and conservatives in its report.
“‘Conservatives argue that it is hypocritical for political leaders to undermine the Second Amendment while simultaneously equipping non-military agencies with hollow-point bullets and military style equipment,’ Open the Books said. ‘One could argue the federal government itself has become a gun show that never adjourns with dozens of agencies continually shopping for new firearms.’”

There Are Now More Bureaucrats With Guns Than U.S. Marines
Most Americans would be shocked if they knew how many millions of rounds of ammunition their local and State police agencies are amassing. And don’t let anybody tell you all of this ammunition is for “practice.” We are talking about hollow-point pistol rounds and military rifle rounds such as 5.56 and .308 calibers. I would take an educated guess (based on my conversations with both ammunition and arms suppliers and police officers themselves) that your local police agencies have enough ammunition stockpiled to kill the entire population of your community four or five times. But these numbers pale in comparison to the numbers of guns and ammunition being amassed by federal agencies–including agencies that nowhere come close to being categorized as “police” agencies, such as those mentioned in the above report.
To realize that the alphabet agencies of the federal government have more armed agents (assigned to domestic duties) than our premier combat branch of the U.S. military (the U.S. Marines), whose job is to engage America’s enemies in direct combat, is a staggering thought. Tell me again exactly who it is that our federal government deems to be the enemy. And they wonder why more and more Americans are arming themselves?
Couple the militarization of our domestic police (and non-police) agencies with the increased call from many in Washington, D.C., to strip the American people of their right to keep and bear arms–especially their right to keep and bear semi-automatic rifles–and one can understand why so many of the American people are “on edge” and have lost all trust in their federal government.
Understanding and acknowledging the Providence of God notwithstanding, the ONLY thing standing between us and abject tyranny is a massively armed citizenry. America is the last nation in the free world that instilled the right to keep and bear arms not only in its Constitution but also in the very heart and soul of its citizens.
Should the American citizenry ever cease to be an armed citizenry (and I mean armed with semi-automatic rifles with high-capacity magazines), the entire free world would collapse into the Dark Ages.
I’m saying it straight out: the only reason that Canada, Great Britain, France, Germany, Italy, Poland, Sweden, New Zealand, Australia, etc., have the modicum of freedom that they do is because the American citizenry is an armed citizenry. It is NOT the U.S. armed forces that are keeping this country and the rest of Western Civilization free; it is the armed citizenry of America that is protecting whatever vestiges of liberty Western Civilization has left. Disarm the American people and the entire free world falls into the abyss of tyranny and oppression–maybe for a thousand years.
Listen to Daniel Webster: “Hold on, my friends, to the Constitution and to the Republic for which it stands. Miracles do not cluster, and what has happened once in 6000 years, may not happen again. Hold on to the Constitution, for if the American Constitution should fail, there will be anarchy throughout the world.”
When Webster talked about holding onto the Constitution, he was including the Second Amendment to the Constitution. And Daniel Webster was not alone in his veneration for the Second Amendment. To a man, America’s Founding Fathers equated the preservation of liberty with the freedom to keep and bear arms.

What could be plainer? Our Founding Fathers did not engrave the right to keep and bear arms in our Constitution for the purpose of hunting or target shooting or even simply as a deterrent to domestic criminals (as necessary as those things are). No. The purpose of the Second Amendment was to keep the American people FREE, including if our own government was the enemy trying to enslave us.
For the most part, utopian globalists have successfully disarmed the citizens of Western Civilization. All over the “free world” only governments are armed; citizens have been stripped of their right to keep and bear arms. Even the people of Switzerland are extremely regulated in this regard.
Again, I’ll say it plainly: if citizens are not able to freely keep and bear semi-automatic rifles, they are effectively DISARMED.
The semi-automatic rifle is to us what the Roman sword was to the people in Jesus’ day. It is the preeminent self-defense tool. It is no coincidence that Jesus commanded His disciples to buy a Roman sword, even if they had to sell their clothes to do so. (Luke 22:36) And by the way, it was against the law for Jews to own a Roman sword at that time. That’s right: when Jesus told His disciples to buy a sword, He was telling them to break the law. Tell this to your pastor and see what he says. His response will give you a little hint as to 1) his honest understanding of scriptures and 2) his honest commitment to liberty.
I submit that we would not even be having a discussion of this issue if the pastors of America were doing their jobs from the pulpit. Instead of trying to mimic Joel Osteen and Rick Warren, they should be following the example of America’s patriot pastors and equipping their people with the Biblical Natural Law principles they need to protect and defend their homes, communities, and country. And that requires teaching them the God-ordained duty of self-defense.
When Barack Obama and Dianne Feinstein tried to make it illegal to possess semi-automatic rifles back in 2013, the vast majority of America’s pastors either said absolutely NOTHING or they actually told their churches, “If the government outlaws your guns, Romans 13 tells us to turn them in.” NO! Romans 13 teaches NO SUCH THING.
When I realized the dearth of pastoral leadership regarding the Christian duty to keep and bear arms, my attorney son and I wrote a book to teach believers (and anyone else) the scriptural truth regarding their responsibility of self-defense. The book is called “To Keep Or Not To Keep: Why Christians Should Not Give Up Their Guns.” We show from the scriptures–all of them, including Romans 13–that self-defense is much more than a constitutional right: it is a God-ordained DUTY. We show that to surrender our means of self-defense (and that especially includes the semi-automatic rifle) is to DENY the Christian faith.
If readers have not been taught this truth and are in any way uncertain or confused about it, I strongly urge you to get the book. And if you have a pastor or Sunday School teacher that doesn’t understand and courageously teach this truth, buy a copy for them.

Thankfully, Obama and Feinstein failed to outlaw our semi-automatic rifles back in 2013 (no thanks to most of America’s pastors), but you can rest assured if Hillary Clinton is elected the confiscation of our semi-automatic rifles will be NUMBER ONE on the agenda. And even if she isn’t elected, Mitch McConnell and Paul Ryan are standing in the wings to compromise away every liberty we have–including the right to keep and bear arms.
So, while federal agencies in Washington, D.C., are being increasingly militarized, the American people are being told they need to surrender their means of self-defense. It is no hyperbole to say that the fate of the civilized world rests with the American people–not with the U.S. armed forces, but with a free and resolute armed citizenry.

Eagle Forum, August 16, 2016 The U.S. weapons industry has already protected itself against the inability or unwillingness of the new NATO countries to fulfill their commitments. In 1996, the U.S. arms industry lobbied a bill through Congress to force American taxpayers to guarantee loans for weapons exports.
The NATO Expansion Treaty will put NATO-U.S. troops right along the border of Russia, and Russia sees that as, at best, a diplomatic slap in the face, and, at worst, a military threat. The Clinton Administration has repeatedly stated that the first round “will not be the last.” The Senate vote is not just about Poland, Hungary and the Czech Republic, but is just as much about Romania, Slovenia, Bulgaria, Lithuania, Latvia, Estonia, and all the countries that are queuing up to cash in on America’s financial generosity and military commitments.

James Caldwell
James Caldwell was called “The Rebel High Priest” or “The Fighting Chaplain.” Caldwell is most famous for the “Give ’em Watts!” story.
During the Springfield (New Jersey) engagement, the colonial militia ran out of wadding for their muskets. Quickly, Caldwell galloped to the Presbyterian church, and returning with an armload of hymnals, threw them to the ground, and hollered, “Now, boys, give ’em Watts!” He was referring to the famous hymn writer, Isaac Watts, of course.
The British hated Caldwell so much, they murdered his wife, Hannah, in her own home, as she sat with her children on her bed. Later, a fellow American was bribed by the British to assassinate Pastor Caldwell–which is exactly what he did. Americans loyal to the Crown burned both his house and church. No less than three cities and two public schools in the State of New Jersey bear his name.
John Peter Muhlenberg
John Peter Muhlenberg was pastor of a Lutheran church in Woodstock, Virginia, when hostilities erupted between Great Britain and the American colonies. When news of Bunker Hill reached Virginia, Muhlenberg preached a sermon from Ecclesiastes 3 to his congregation. He reminded his parishioners that there was a time to preach and a time to fight. He said that, for him, the time to preach was past and it was time to fight. He then threw off his vestments and stood before his congregants in the uniform of a Virginia colonel.
Muhlenberg later was promoted to brigadier-general in the Continental Army, and later, major general. He participated in the battles of Brandywine, Germantown, Monmouth, and Yorktown.
