Your skin doesn’t stop at your neck, and neither should your skin care regimen. Unless you only wear long-sleeved shirts and jackets, the skin on your arms is just as visible and just as exposed as your face, especially in climates or during seasons where the weather is hot. From moisturizing to sun protection to firm, wrinkle-free skin to fading dark spots and age spots, having flawless skin on your arms is just as important as having flawless skin on your face.  Here are six tips from Murad on how to make sure that your arms have glowing skin that’s Better Every Day®.

Hydrate, Hydrate, Hydrate.

Beautiful skin begins from within no matter where it is on your body, and that includes your arms. While using a body lotion or skin moisturizer to hydrate your arms topically is important, it’s even more important to make sure that your skin is nourished and hydrated from within. Eat your water in the form of fresh fruits and vegetables as described in Dr. Murad’s best-selling Inclusive Health® book, The Water Secret. The molecular structure of water in fruits and vegetables will be absorbed by your body more easily rather than passing through your body and flushing minerals from your systems. This absorption means firmer skin with a healthy glow.

Do You Remove Hair From Your Arms? If So, Be Gentle.

For some women, unwanted body hair on their arms means a regular regimen of removing excess hair on the lower arms. Even if the hair is fine, this can lead to redness, irritation and even ingrown hairs. Be sure to use proper hair removal techniques. If you are shaving, be sure to use a gel or shaving cream that helps to smooth out the razor’s path across your skin (and be sure to use a sharp razor). Whether you’re shaving or using other hair removal methods like laser treatment, waxing or depilatory creams, be sure to treat your skin with a hydrating and soothing agent afterwards to minimize redness and bumps.

“I travel for a living – planes, trains and automobiles. Recycled air, cold weather and detergent residue on towels and sheets cause my skin to sometimes get dry and itchy. I use this serum on every trip to calm my skin. It leaves my skin feeling moist and refreshed. I wear it under my daily moisturizer when the wind is blowing and the snow is falling!” kimboku, California (Read all reviews.)

Your Arms Need Sun Protection

Your arms are constantly exposed to UV radiation when you’re outside (unless you’re constantly covered). That means that using a moisturizer or sun protection product on your arms every single day is a must. UV exposure can lead to a premature breakdown of collagen, which in time will mean loose, flabby skin on your arms. It can also cause dark spots and age spots that you’ll later need to fade. Of course, unprotected UV exposure can also cause skin diseases such as skin cancer. Be sure that your arms are always protected from sun damage.

And remember, the most common place that the side of your face and your arm will absorb UV radiation is when you’re driving your car. A great way to protect your skin and your health is to invest in UV radiation coating for your car windows!

“I have very fair skin, and burn easily. This product was the best investment I ever made to protect my skin against the sun! Firm Loose Skin on Your Arms

Particularly in the upper arms, skin becomes looser and gives a crepe-like or even “flabby” appearance as you age. Of course, the most effective way to combat loose skin on your upper arms is to ensure that you have a regular strength workout incorporated into your life. However, using a body moisturizer that also firms skin to combat the appearance of loose skin is also an important way to enhance your skin care regimen in order to have better and healthier skin on your arms.

Recommended Product: Murad Firm and Tone Serum

This patented, breakthrough serum contains encapsulated liposomes that deliver active ingredients to reduce the appearance of loose skin.

Fade Dark Spots, Age Spots and Sun Spots on Your Arms

Because your arms and shoulders get so much exposure to UV rays, dark spots (also known as age spots or sun spots) may form on them. When they do, be sure to remember that it is possible to effectively fade dark spots from your skin. Your hands may be particularly susceptible to the formation of dark spots and sun spots, so be sure to focus on that area. However, anywhere that you find a dark spot, you can also effectively treat and fade an age spot.

Recommended Product: Murad Rapid Age Spot and Pigment Lightening Serum

Using Hydroquinone, the strongest skin lightening agent available without a prescription, this serum effectively fades away dark spots and age spots on your arms, face or body.
