BART Weekend Closures

The weekend of September 3-5 (Labor Day Weekend): As part of the regional track work around the BART system started earlier this year, BART stations between Daly City and Glen Park will be closed over seven weekends for vital repairs to their tracks and to add equipment for the reduction of noise from trains.

During the shutdown, there will be free bus shuttle service available for customers:

CONSTRUCTION WORK AND OTHER UPDATES

UPDATE: Balboa Park Station Improvement Project

Now until Further Notice: The Balboa Park Station Area and Plaza Improvements project broke ground on February 29 to implement safety, accessibility and transit improvements around the Balboa Park Station. Weather permitting, construction work for the project is anticipated to last through December 2016. Temporary impacts include:

September 6, Tuesday: The K-Ingleside and J Church Muni lines will be temporarily re-routed and is expected to last for approximately four months.

Temporarily Change to K-Ingleside Rail Service:

The first and last stop for both inbound and outbound travel will be at the City College Pedestrian Bridge on Ocean Avenue

There will be no direct service to the Balboa Park Station

For direct K service, passengers can transfer at Ocean and Lee to the following frequently serviced Muni routes:

29-Sunset (transfer at the Ocean and Lee stop in front of Whole Foods).

49-Van Ness/Mission (transfer on the Phelan bus loop on Ocean and Phelan)

8-Bayshore (transfer on the Phelan bus loop on Ocean and Phelan)

To reach Balboa Park Station, passengers can also walk about three accessible blocks from the City College Pedestrian Bridge stop to the Ocean Avenue entrance of the station.

Temporarily Change to J-Church Rail Service:

Both inbound and outbound service will be on San Jose Avenue

Customers travelling inbound should board at the temporary stop at San Jose Avenue and Geneva Avenue, in front of Crazy Pepper (Accessible boarding at Seneca Avenue)

Customers travelling outbound will be dropped off at the existing accessible M line stop on San Jose Avenue at Geneva Avenue (Accessible off-boarding at Wayside lift)

Sansome Street Improvement Project

The extension of southbound traffic lane designated for transit, taxis and commercial vehicles on Sansome Street from Washington Street to Broadway Street provides two-way service for the 10 Townsend and 12 Folsom/Pacific Muni routes and save customers up to three minutes for each southbound trip is complete. This project is part of Muni Forward Program designed to improve customers’ travel time and reliability:

The left northbound lane on Sansome Street between Washington and Broadway streets has been converted to a southbound traffic lane with restricted hours designated for use by certain vehicles:

Between 6 a.m. and 8 p.m., Daily: Only buses, taxis, commercial vehicles and emergency vehicles are allowed.

Outside of those hours: All vehicles are allowed.

Fifteen metered parking spaces on the west side of Sansome Street in the project area have been converted to commercial loading zones.

Since Saturday, August 13, Muni routes 10 Townsend and 12 Folsom/Pacific traveling southbound no longer provide service on Battery Street between Broadway and Washington streets. The route travels on the newly designated southbound transit lane on Sansome Street with the following stops:

Sansome Street at Jackson Street

Sansome Street at Broadway Street

Customers can contact muniforward@sfmta.com with questions on this project.

Construction of Mission Bay Loop

Now until Further Notice: The SFMTA has resumed with exploratory excavation on 18th, 19th and Illinois streets. Construction has begun and is expected to complete in seven to eight months.

The Mission Bay Loop is a key component for San Francisco’s T Third rail line and is critical to operating the T-Third Central Subway service plan. The loop provides turn-around capabilities for the T-Third Street light rail line via a connection of trackway from 3rd Street to 18th, Illinois and 19th streets, which will allow the SFMTA to operate the necessary service levels needed to support current and planned growth within the eastern portion of San Francisco.

Traffic, including traveling by bike, may be affected by the construction work. All work areas will be clearly marked and there will be flaggers to help direct traffic. Traveling around and through the construction area should expect minor delays.

Local access to properties along the project site will be maintained.
