Until very recently I was not a morning person.
They say necessity is the mother of invention, and my early morning allergy resulted in me creating what has become known as the ‘Breakfast Picnic’ (henceforth referred to as the BP).
Fed up of the girls bursting into the bedroom at 7am on weekends, loudly announcing: ‘Mummy we’re huuuuuuuungry!’ I began packing a lunchbox each evening. Inside it contained a selection of healthy nibbles, including fresh fruit and Organix snacks.
Such a simple idea, but it worked SO WELL! The girls would wake at silly o’clock, but rather than spoiling my slumber they’d collect their BP, sit down with the iPad and buy us another precious hour in bed.
NO JUNK PROMISE
I didn’t want to feed them anything sugary, so the Organix range was ideal (and don’t be fooled into thinking they’re just for babies and toddlers – my girls are nearly 6 and 8 and still love them!). I started off with their corn crisps, which are baked and coated with natural flavours and no added salt, and their gingerbread men and rice cakes sweetened with fruit juice.
We were all excited to hear that ORGANIX had introduced a selection of healthy snacks to their range – including banana and cinnamon puffcorn (one of Big Sis’s FAVS!), oaty bites, cheese & chive breadsticks and crispy bars.
Not only does it mean more yummy BP choices, but it also gives me more delicious and healthy options for Big Sis’s school lunches (Lil Sis gets school meals). The girls are happy and I’m happy too, knowing they aren’t getting loaded up with unnecessary salt, sugar and additives. Win, win!
