Ever longed to spend a day (or more) as a Hogwarts student? Well, Herstmonceux Castle in East Sussex, England, is one step closer to making that dream a reality!
For one weekend, the castle (renamed the Bothwell School of Witchcraft for the event) is set to become a real-life Hogwarts, where adults will have the chance to experience a whole host of magical surprises.
Those taking part will not only be Sorted into their House but will also attend wizarding-themed classes, have two overnight stays, a meal, and their own character to play throughout the duration of the weekend.
Cameron Readman, the co-founder of Bothwell School of Witchcraft, spoke about the event:
Creating this amazing experience for our potential guests is really exciting.
We want to make it the best we can, and I can’t wait to show everyone more of what we have planned.
The event will be organised by Rogue Events – something co-founder Stuart Munnich is clearly excited about.
We were lucky that Herstmonceux Castle had a cancellation allowing us to book it for the event.
When we arrived at Herstmonceux for the first time we knew immediately that it was the right place. It just felt magical.
The weekend, exclusively for ages 18+, will take place on August 11-13, with tickets being sold via a Kickstarter campaign that will be launched in March.
Prices will depend on which package the participant chooses, but the standard rate will be between £400 and £500.
Similar gatherings have taken place in several places around Europe, including Poland’s Czocha Castle, so we’re sure that the UK’s attempt at bringing the magic to life will be a great success!

The UK gets its own real-life ‘wizarding school’ when Bothwell School of
Witchcraft opens its door in August 2017 London, UK: It’ll be a dream come true for those attending the Bothwell School of Witchcraft, as all those who missed their owl as children can finally attend a real School of Witchcraft. The weekend will take place on the 11th -13th August at the scenic Herstmonceux Castle in East Sussex, UK. The three day and two night event run by Rogue Events Limited has partnered with the team that produced College of Wizardry in Czocha Castle, Poland and New World Magischola, USA to bring this experience to the UK. “I’m really happy that they have picked up the wand and are bringing this event to Britain.” -Claus Raasted, Project coordinator, College of Wizardry. The event will be much like a murder mystery, where guests play characters in a wizarding school and take part in lessons. Tickets for Bothwell School of Witchcraft will be sold via a Kickstarter
campaign to be launched in March 2017. The event is currently for over 18s, however, the team aim to make future events specifically for children.
Inspired by the success of both the College of Wizardry and New World Magischola which both attracted worldwide attention, the team were surprised that no similar event existed in the UK. One of the oldest significant brick buildings still standing in England, Herstmonceux Castle which is owned by Queen’s University, Canada is used as an International Study Centre. From 1957 to 1988 its grounds, spanning 300
acres, formal themed gardens and a 15th century moat were the home of the Royal Observatory, Greenwich.
