It’s that time of year again. The holidays are in full swing and that means Christmas specials galore are here to grace our television screens. We all have come to know and love these holiday treats, but have we ever stopped to think about where the classic characters would be Sorted if they went to Hogwarts? You haven’t? Well good news, this article is just for you! Let’s take a look!

Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer — GRYFFINDOR!

Rudolph is the classic story of an underdog, similar to how Harry Potter himself is an underdog. Rudolph would be Sorted into Gryffindor House because of his willingness to step up to any task despite the odds. When there is a snowstorm on Christmas Eve, he doesn’t back down and let the children of the world wait for their presents because it is storming up at the North Pole. He steps up to the plate and decides to lead Santa and his team of reindeer with the help of his glowing red nose. Now that is what I call bravery. Plus, Rudolph is such a jock, playing all of his reindeer games.

Frosty the Snowman — HUFFLEPUFF!

Hufflepuffs are the House known for being the most joyous and laid back. So naturally, when a character’s signature catch phrase is “Happy Birthday!”, it is safe to say that they would be Sorted into Hufflepuff House. Seriously, how much happier can you get? Birthdays are awesome! Frosty is accepting of everybody, making him a great addition to the badgers.

Santa Claus — HUFFLEPUFF!

Another important trait of Hufflepuff House is that they are accepting. They will take in anyone and everyone. As the Sorting Hat says in Order of the Phoenix, “Said Hufflepuff, ‘I’ll teach the lot / And treat them just the same.’” Santa Claus does just this. He gives every child a chance to receive a gift. Of course, they must not be naughty…but Santa Claus seems very forgiving when it comes to behavior.

Buddy the Elf — GRYFFINDOR!

Source

Buddy seems like the type of guy who would belong in Hufflepuff. After all, he contains many of the Hufflepuff traits. He is just and loyal. He is a hard worker. And he would love to live in a common room so close to the kitchens where he could eat spaghetti and syrup as often as possible. But at the end of the day, Buddy’s bravery is what sets him apart from his fellow elves up at the North Pole. Buddy makes the treacherous journey from the North Pole to New York City, braving many obstacles. Then he must confront his father who he has never met, a very brave task indeed. And finally, he must save Christmas by stepping up to help Santa (and sing a few Christmas Carols to inspire belief among the citizens of NYC) deliver the presents to the children of the world safely. Now that sounds like a true Gryffindor.

Ebenezer Scrooge — SLYTHERIN!

Source

Slytherin House is often given the shaft and regarded as the bad House to be Sorted into. But let it be known that this is a lie. Slytherin is just as worthy of a House as all of the others. This statement must be made because I fear many readers will believe Scrooge to be Sorted into Slytherin purely based on his evil nature at the start of A Christmas Carol. Scrooge, like many Slytherins, starts out on a bad path. But it is his path to redemption that makes him such a well loved character (similar to our very own Severus Snape…in some regards). Scrooge is very cunning and will do whatever it takes to earn money. But once he is set free from his wretched behavior, he uses his cunning behavior to display good and goes to great lengths to give his employee Bob Cratchit a nice Christmas turkey on Christmas Day.

The Grinch — SLYTHERIN!

Source

The Grinch is very similar to Scrooge in that both of them begin as evil baddies but end redeemed and good people. They are Sorted into Slytherin House for the same reason (sorry for the lack of originality but it is the truth). The Grinch too is very cunning. He goes to incredible lengths to dress up as Santa Claus and prepare a heist to steal all of the presents from the Whos down in Whoville. But he then applies the same amount of effort into returning all of the presents he stole and becoming apart of the Christmas celebration.

Charlie Brown — HUFFLEPUFF!

Source

The cynical and often overlooked Charlie Brown would be Sorted into Hufflepuff. Charlie Brown isn’t always the most appreciated character. His luck is always skating on thin ice (similar to that of our beloved Neville Longbottom), his peers don’t show him respect, and his ideas are often laughed at. So why Sort him into Hufflepuff? Charlie Brown has a lot to offer that people don’t often see right away but come to see in time. He is intelligent, kind, and resourceful if people just give him a chance. Many will overlook Hufflepuff House because they sometimes get lost among the other 3 Houses. But in Hufflepuff House, Charlie Brown would finally be accepted for who he is.

Kevin McCallister — RAVENCLAW!

Source

Finally, we have a character who is Sorted into Ravenclaw. I bet you were getting nervous there wouldn’t be one but here he is. The King of Christmas Heist himself, Kevin McCallister. Now it would seem that Kevin would be Sorted into Slytherin. He is very cunning and can also show a nasty streak. But it is his smarts that outshine all of his other qualities. Kevin is an incredibly intelligent young man. He can plan out an entire house full of traps for two burglars in less than 24 hours and seemingly see what is going to happen before it happens. His keen understanding of people allow him to outwit most of the adults in his prescience. He would be a perfect addition to the House.
