The 2017 WEAC Professional Issues Conference will focus on the most important lever in improving our schools: building the knowledge and skills of educators. WEAC is committed to professional learning that is continuous, job-embedded, practical, and connected to student achievement. WEAC offers to our members the connections, tools, learning opportunities, and resources they need to promote meaningful and purposeful professional learning and embed it in the school day.

Mark Denning
Mark Denning, nationally recognized as a leading educator, lecturer and curriculum specialist in American Indian history and culture, is enrolled in the Oneida Tribe of Wisconsin. His ancestry includes Menominee, Mille Lacs Ojibwe, Stockbridge-Munsee, French and English. Mark, also known as Marin, served as the Executive Director of Southeastern Oneida Tribal Services, a full-spectrum social service provider for Oneida tribal members.
Mark served on the board of directors at Milwaukee’s Indian Community School, a flagship institution of Urban American Indian education, and during his tenure, the school was the recipient of the National Indian School Board Association Award for being a School Board of the Year. He also served as an advisor on the Gates Millenium Educational Foundation and is a board member of Indian Summer Festival. He is a lecturer in the School of Education at the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee, and serves as a consultant and trainer with Boeing Corporation and the Office of the Director of National Intelligence. Mark is keynote speaker on Friday night, March 3.
Tony Evers
Dr. Tony Evers was elected Wisconsin State Superintendent of Public Instruction in April 2009 and re-elected in 2013. With over three decades of public education experience, Dr. Evers has dedicated his life to advancing public education in Wisconsin.
As Wisconsin’s chief state school officer and leader of the Wisconsin Department of Public Instruction, Dr. Evers has steadfastly worked to transform Wisconsin’s education system in order to realize the vision of “Every Child a Graduate, College and Career Ready.”
Dr. Evers began his career in 1976 as an educator in Tomah and has served Wisconsin students, parents, and citizens as an education leader at every level — principal, school district administrator, CESA administrator, and deputy state superintendent — before his election to the state’s highest educational post.
Born and raised in Plymouth, Wisconsin, Dr. Evers graduated from Plymouth High School and earned his bachelor’s, master’s, and doctoral degree in educational administration from the University of Wisconsin-Madison. Dr. Evers is our keynote speaker on Saturday, March 4.
