A few months ago, we reported about a new SKUs coming to Windows 10 with the new Anniversary Update. Today, Microsoft has officially announced one of the new SKUs for Windows 10: Pro Education. Windows 10 Pro Education builds on the Windows 10 Pro SKU, but it’s also pretty similar to the regular Windows 10 Education SKU. The Pro Education SKU will be missing some features that are present in Windows 10 Education, this includes Windows Defender ATP, Credential Guard, and Device Guard. Microsoft states:
Windows 10 Pro Education builds on the commercial version of Windows 10 Pro and provides important management controls needed in schools. Windows 10 Pro Education is effectively a variant of Windows 10 Pro that provides education-specific default settings, including the removal of Cortana1. These default settings disable tips, tricks and suggestions & Windows Store suggestions. More detailed information on these default settings is available in Manage Windows 10 and Windows Store tips, tricks and suggestions.
As noted by ZDNet, Windows 10 Pro Education SKU will be pre-installed on devices that come with the Anniversary Update pre-installed, and they will be providing discounted K-12 academic licenses as well. As for existing Windows 10 Pro devices that were purchased with discounted K-12 licenses, Microsoft will be automatically upgrading users to Windows 10 Pro Education with the Anniversary Update.
Microsoft is yet to announce official information on Windows 10 Pro Workspace, but we will likely know about that in the coming weeks. For now, what do you think of Windows 10 Pro Education? Let us know in the comment section below.
