SENIOR MANAGER, LEGAL ADVOCACY OUTREACH

We are seeking qualified candidates for the position of Senior Manager, Legal Advocacy Outreach to join the American Diabetes Association’s Government Affairs & Advocacy team. The position is located in the Association’s home office in Alexandria, Virginia. Legal Advocacy at the American Diabetes Association. The American Diabetes Association is the national leader in diabetes patient advocacy, and we seek an outreach manager to support and expand our cutting edge advocacy for people experiencing discrimination because of diabetes. Our Legal Advocacy department works to uphold the civil rights of people with diabetes, empowering people to advocate for themselves and connecting volunteers from around the country to individual and group efforts to end discrimination. Our work focuses on ending the unfair treatment of people with diabetes at school, on the job, in custody and detention settings, and in public accommodations and programs. Our work is one-of-a-kind; we are the only diabetes organization providing legal advocacy services to people with diabetes.

DESCRIPTION

The Senior Manager, Legal Advocacy Outreach reports to the Vice President, Legal Advocacy and is responsible for community outreach and promotion; volunteer recruitment and engagement; and assisting Legal Advocacy staff with constituent intake.The primary duties of this position include:

Managing community outreach to promote Legal Advocacy services and priorities, to include:

-Conducting outreach through in person and virtual events;

-Promoting Legal Advocacy on internal and external communication channels and to a diverse audience;

-Developing trainings; and

-Creating outreach materials for use at Association events and other forums

Recruiting and engaging volunteers on Legal Advocacy initiatives, to include:

-Developing and implementing strategies to recruit and engage attorneys, diabetes health care professionals, and lay advocates who complement the staff team to carry out mission activities related to ending discrimination; and

-Coordinating support for field-based legal advocacy activities

Performing legal intake and case support, to include:

-Supporting Legal Advocacy staff who provide direct assistance to people with diabetes facing discrimination by performing detailed legal intake phone interviews;

-Communicating with constituents; and

-Assisting with attorney and health care professional case referrals
