Moxie is delighted to have been selected by Te Tumu Paeroa to bring the story of Te Aro Pa to life visually on 10 metre panels surrounding a very special construction site at Greta Point which will see a new papakāinga come to life behind this builder’s fence over the next six months.
Te Aro Pa’s story is steeped in a history of displacement and the hopes of a new generation of Māori landowners. This remarkable journey will end in the completion next year of 10 three-bedroom units and four one-bedroom units designed to support affordable, modern living.
“It’s been a real joy to be involved in this important slice of our city’s history,” says Kane Kapernick, Moxie’s Creative Director. “The building architecture brings in some beautiful elements that elegantly span the past, present and future of the site and our aspiration was to lace these through the visual story.”
While the final design was created by Warren, most of us played a role in concept development and critiquing, which is one of the real benefits of being a small team.
“The fence was installed on Wednesday,” says Sarah Ropata, Communications Manager for Te Tumu Paeroa, the responsible Trustee for the Te Aro Pa Trust. “Everyone involved loves it and we hope to generate a lot of interest and discussion.”
If you visit the site at Greta Point, uou can contribute your thoughts on what home means to you via specially designed tags on the fence. At the end of construction, the tags will be used to create an artwork that will be auctioned to raise funds for other displaced communities in New Zealand.
