With six nominations each, Justin Timberlake and Macklemore are tied for the most MTV VMA nominations at this year’s awards show, taking place on August 25 at Brooklyn’s Barclays Center.
Timberlake’s video for “Mirrors” is up for the coveted Video Of The Year Moonman and will face off against Macklemore & Ryan Lewis’ ”Thrift Shop,” Bruno Mars’ ”Locked Out of Heaven,” Robin Thicke’s “Blurred Lines,” and Taylor Swift’s ”I Knew You Were Trouble.”
Timberlake’s “Mirrors” is also up for Best Pop Video, Best Male Video, and Best Editing. While his David Fincher-directed clip for “Suit & Tie” is in the running for the Best Collaboration and Best Direction awards.
Fans might be surprised to see that Macklemore & Ryan Lewis’ hit “Thrift Shop” only earned one nomination (though it is the night’s biggest honor), but the duo’s song “Can’t Hold Us” managed to rack up four nominations including Best Hip-Hop Video, Best Cinematography, Best Direction, and Best Editing. Their video for “Same Love” also earned itself a nomination, Best Video With a Social Message.
Bruno Mars is nominated for four statues including Video of the Year, Best Pop Video, and Best Male Video for “Locked Out of Heaven,” and Best Choreography for “Treasure.” While Pink, Robin Thicke, Miley Cyrus and Thirty Seconds To Mars all earned three noms a piece.
