This year Nerd HQ will again provide fans with a home base where they can experience cutting edge technology and gaming showcases, exciting autograph signings, cornerstone events and exclusive parties, including Levi’s annual NERD Party.

Returning this year is the very popular philanthropic panel series, “Conversations for a Cause” which will stream through The Nerd Machine YouTube page, NerdMachineTV. Last year’s panels raised $140,000 for Operation Smile and consisted of some of the most talked about films, television shows and video games, including: “Chuck,” “Doctor Who,” “Grimm,” “NTSF,” “Robot Chicken,” “The Man with the Iron Fist,” “Expendables 2,” “Tomb Raider” and “Twilight.” Panelists included many of today’s top actors, actresses and film and game makers including Ashley Greene, Guillermo del Toro, Jason Ritter, Jared Padalecki, Joss Whedon, Kellan Lutz, Lucy Liu, Nathan Fillion, RZA, Seth Green, Stan Lee, Terry Crews, and Zachary Levi, among many others. This year’s panels, which will be announced in the coming days, are sure to bring fun surprises and intriguing discussions. SAN DIEGO, CA – July 8, 2013 – Seven-plus North American entertainment properties leading in horror, thriller and suspense content are joining forces to celebrate genre entertainment at this year’s Comic-Con by hosting “Con of Darkness,” an evening genre-party saluting Comic-Con fans and industry insiders alike. This invitation-only party takes place Friday, July 19, at San Diego’s gothic-inspired Voyeur nightclub from 8-11 PM PDT. The event is produced by veteran production and communications agency, A-List Communications who successfully produced last year’s horror genre event.
Dark Sky Films, who is releasing “Frankenstein’s Army” on July 26th; IFC horror imprint IFC Midnight who is promoting “Maniac” (starring Elijah Wood), “Room 237”, “Antiviral” and “Errors of The Human Body” this Comic-Con; Entertainment One (eOne), horror-centric website, DreadCentral.com; The Haunted Hotel; Femmes Fatales; and Shocktillyoudrop.com all will co-sponsor the event along with other partnerships soon to be announced. Event producer David Manning of A-List Communications says, “It’s rare in the genre universe to have this number of properties join forces to entertain and honor their fans and colleagues. This unique partnership enables a really diverse array of visuals and entertainment for guests to enjoy.”
“Con of Darkness” guests will experience an interactive event replete with spectacular visuals from all event partners; a VIP suite decked out by Dark Sky Films; music spun by a surprise special guest DJ; go-ghoul dancers; entertainment and customized refreshments. Food will be appropriate to the occasion; party guests can expect to suck, er, snack on:

“MTV Presents: Creator Pitch LIVE!” (Friday, July 19): Join MTV Comics Executive Editor Tom Akel for the 2nd annual “MTV Presents: Creator Pitch LIVE!,” a live pitch competition between three of the top creators in the business. Last year’s winner David Petersen (Mouse Guard) will be back to defend his crown against two new challengers. Creators are presented with a topic just a few weeks out from the convention and then develop original pitches that the fans vote on to determine the winner!
MTV Comics Premieres Graphic Novel “The Gloom”: The first graphic novel from MTV Comics premieres at Comic-Con! From acclaimed writer Tony Lee (Doctor Who, Starship Troopers), and artist Dan Boultwood via Arcana Studios, comes the adventures of “The Gloom!” In 1940s Manhattan the vigilante The Gloom is America’s last line of defense against the Nazis, classic pulp heroism, and common sense! Tony Lee will be signing copies of “The Gloom” at Arcana’s booth #2415.
“Teen Wolf” was developed by Jeff Davis (creator, “Criminal Minds”) who also serves as executive producer. The Bow Bells Care Home is under threat and the McGuire’s – Andy, Terry, and Katy – need to find some way to keep their grandfather and his friends in the East End, where they belong. As contractors to an East London building site unlock a 350-year old vault full of seriously hungry zombies, the East End has suddenly gone to hell and the Cockney way of life is under threat. Equipped with all the guns and ammo they can carry, it’s up to the gang to save the hostages, their grandfather, and East London from zombie Armageddon.

After six seasons of sublime, nerdy fun on television, the cult comedy series Mystery Science Theater 3000 took to the big screen in 1996 for its deliriously funny takedown of the 1955 alien invasion epic This Island Earth.
Evil scientist Dr. Clayton Forrester explains the premise at the start: in his quest for world domination, he devises a scheme to subject the human race to the worst movies ever made. He tests his plan on Mike Nelson, the sole human aboard an Earth-orbiting space station known as the Satellite of Love. But our hero and his two robot sidekicks turn a lemon into a much funnier lemon by showering This Island Earth with wisecracks, ridicule and general silliness. The human race may never be rid of cheesy movies, but when the critics are this nutty, who cares?
