Suicide Squad
Aside from “Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice,” DC Entertainment has another called "Suicide Squad.”
“Suicide Squad” is actually a series of comic books which describe how some of DC’s greatest villains came to a point where they had to work together to save the world, or something.
The cast of the upcoming film is immense, and it features names like Margot Robbie, Will Smith, Ben Affleck, Joel Kinnaman, Scott Eastwood, and Jared Leto, who is set to give us a whole new representation of the infamous and completely insane Joker.
Jungle Book
By now, we’re all used to seeing comic book adaptations, endless sequels, and recycled classics in the form of remakes.
That’s why we were hyped when we heard “The Jungle Book” is set to be rebooted.
The original 1967 “The Jungle Book” came to us from Disney and told the story of an orphan boy named Mowgli, who is raised in the wild by a panther and a bear.
In the 2016 version, the story will remain pretty much the same, only with updated technology and a bunch of famous actors voicing the characters.
Among these actors are Idris Elba, Scarlett Johansson, Christopher Walken, Lupita Nyong’o, Bill Murray, Ben Kingsley, and Giancarlo Esposito.
Warcraft
2016 already looks like it’s going to have something for everyone, and this applies to gamers, too.
Speaking of which, one of the most popular video-game franchises in the world is set to get its very own, live-action movie.
“Warcraft” is one of three very successful franchises that came out of Blizzard. Set in an epic fantasy world, the franchise as a whole spreads over thousands of years and includes a vast number of stories, races, worlds, and characters.
As for the “Warcraft” movie, all we know so far is that it’s going to follow the story of humans and their very first encounter with the outlandish orcs. The cast includes many famous actors, such as Travis Fimmel, Ben Foster, Dominic Cooper, Paula Patton, and Clancy Brown.
Kung Fu Panda 3
The 2008 animated feature “Kung Fu Panda” was a huge hit among kids and adults alike, while its 2011 sequel “Kung Fu Panda 2” only added to the success of the idea and turned one popular movie into a legitimate franchise.
Now it’s time to revisit Po and his adventures in “Kung Fu Panda 3.”
The first time, Po was chosen as the Dragon Warrior and had to defend his title against the ferocious Tai Lung.
The second time, he had to repel the invasion lead by Shen, the evil peacock mastermind.
This time, we finally get to meet Po’s long-lost father, but we also get to see him fight against the villain only known as Kai.
Po and his martial arts buddies will be voiced by the same actors as in the first two films, with the addition of J.K. Simmons as the movie’s main antagonist.
Star Trek Beyond
“Star Trek” is one of the most popular sci-fi franchises this world has ever seen. Not only does it include a bunch of movies, but also a very successful, long-time-running TV series.
Now, the legacy continues with “Star Trek Beyond.”
Sci-fi fans and trekkies were in a state of delirium when the first new “Star Trek” movie got released in 2009, and we’re even happier in 2013 when they got to see Benedict Cumberbatch in the role of Khan. Unfortunately, the plot of “Star Trek Beyond” is unknown at this point.
It’s certain we’re going to see Chris Pine, Zachary Quinto, Karl Urban, and Simon Pegg again, but rumors have it Idris Elba and Sofia Boutella are joining the crew.
Independence Day Resurgence
There’s no denying that “Independence Day” is one of the most iconic and patriotic movies that ever came out of Hollywood.
For that reason alone, its long-awaited sequel will be welcomed with open arms when it hits the theaters in 2016.
20th Century Fox summed up the plot in a press release: “Using recovered alien technology, the nations of Earth have collaborated on an immense defense program to protect the planet.
But nothing can prepare us for the aliens’ advanced and unprecedented force. Only the ingenuity of a few brave men and women can bring our world back from the brink of extinction.”
Although Will Smith won’t be reprising his role from the first movie, we’re still going to see Jeff Goldblum and Bill Pullman return to theirs, as well as some new faces like Liam Hemsworth and Maika Monroe.
Deadpool
Let’s start off with what the audience is probably most anxious to see.
The movie in question is “Deadpool,” which is based on the Marvel character we’ve kind of already seen, but this time he’s set to get a proper treatment.
‘The Merc with a mount’ was once a Special Forces operative who was subjected to an experiment which left him scarred for life.
Not only is Deadpool’s face ruined, but also his sanity – attributes which make him one of the best anti-heroes ever created.
Those who watched “X-Men Origins: Wolverine” have seen a glimpse of Ryan Reynolds’ Deadpool, but to be fair, it was a missed shot. Now joined by Morena Baccarin, Ed Skrein, T.J. Miller, and Gina Carano, the Canadian actor is given another chance at showing Deadpool for what he really is.
X-Men Apocalypse
The “X-Men” is another franchise the MCU managed to successfully transfer from its comic book origins to the big screen.
With seven movies behind it, “X-Men: Apocalypse” is bound to tell the story of one of Marvel’s greatest villains.
The titular character has nothing to do with the biblical term, but is actually a ridiculously old and powerful mutant whose actual name is En Sabah Nur.
He was born in ancient Egypt, but thanks to his immortality, he manages to cause trouble for our modern-day pack of heroes.
Michael Fassbender, James McAvoy, Jennifer Lawrence, and Hugh Jackman will star as their characters from previous movies, while we’ll get to see Oscar Isaac in the titular role and a bunch of new additions to the cast.
Captain America Civil War
The Marvel Cinematic Universe is by far the franchise that made the most progress in the past couple of years.
Diverse characters in a complex storyline have been firing up the crowd for some time now, which all continues in the form of “Captain America: Civil War.”
Those who have been following the development of MCU’s Phase 1 know how the Avengers work – the Earth’s mightiest heroes work together to solve problems by using their powers and relying on each other.
However, that will be compromised when Iron Man and Captain America start a fight that escalates into a civil war.
You will be able to see Chris Evans, Robert Downey Jr., Scarlett Johansson, Jeremy Renner, and Paul Bettany in their iconic roles, but this movie is also set to introduce Spider-Man and Black Panther into the MCU, who will be played by Tom Holland and Chadwick Boseman, respectively.
Batman V Superman Dawn Of Justice
As opposed to MCU, DC Entertainment has started its initial phase of comic book adaptations.
We’ve only seen Superman so far, but that was only the beginning of the story that will unfold starting with “Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice.”
The ‘Man of Steel’ and the ‘Dark Knight’ are arguably the two most famous heroes DC has ever created.
In the comics, they we’re both allies and enemies, but we have a feeling the upcoming movie will show us one of the greatest superhero fights the world has ever seen.
Henry Cavill is set to reprise his role of Superman, while we’ll get to see Ben Affleck, Gal Gadot, Jason Momoa, and Ezra Miller in the roles of Batman, Wonder Woman, Aquaman, and The Flash, respectively.
Here are some worthy mentions that weren't included in the list:
Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them
Finding Dory
Ghostbusters
Rogue 1
Gods Of Egypt
Zoolander 2
London Has Fallen
Looks like another great year for movies!
