After binge watching my way through numerous Netflix box-sets recently, I have discovered and fallen in love with the American version of The Office. I've watched it over and over, and was devastated to see that the English Netflix had now removed it.

I use to be a huge fan of the original Office series, but the combination of Michael Scott, Jim Halpert and Dwight Schrute has made this version surpass the original by a long shot (in my eyes at least). I could wax lyrically for hours about how much I love this show, but instead I'm going to use my progressive growth in the MPU program to dive into my first "Then & Now"/"Where Are They Now" style list.

So I apologize in advance for any holes in this layout or the basicness of this first attempt. But bare with me my loyal readers and let us explore where our favourite Dunder Mifflin employees are today. As I always say, "exploration and growth is always better when shared with others".

I don't, but I thought it sounded catchy.

Michael Scott/Steve Carell

The Office made Steve Carell a household name and rightfully so. He started off as the world's worst boss that made you cringe as you watched, but as time went on, viewers learnt to love his childlike and naive look on the world. He may have been a useless boss in the eyes of his superiors, but Michael Scott's quest for true love and a family to call his, made us laugh and cry. He has become one of my favourite characters on TV for a long time. After he left the show, Carell became a big, Hollywood movie star. He headlined Crazy Stupid Love, Seeking a Friend for the End of the World, The Way Way Back, Despicable Me 2, Anchorman 2, and Foxcatcher, which netted him an Academy Award nomination for Best Actor. He shows no sign of stopping, with 11 projects in various stages of production, including the awards-baiting Freeheld and Woody Allen’s latest.

Jim Halpert/John Krasinski

Jim Halpert was the inspiration prankster for many fans. His legendary pranks that he pulled on his desk neighbour Dwight, were the stuff of comedy gold. One half of the best "will they, won't they" couple on television. Pam and Jim's story was an archetypal display of true love in all of its glory, and the show's real heart. His rise from a lazy paper sales man to a devoted family man was a part of what made the show so incredible. I even got incredible hair envy from his slick do. Since The Office, Krasinski has done a bit of voice work in Monster’s University, The Wind Rises, The Prophet, and BoJack Horseman. He also co-starred in Aloha, is starring in Michael Bay’s upcoming 13 Hours: The Secret Soldiers of Benghazi, and directed and starred in The Hollars, which does not yet have a release date. Krasinski even came close to becoming both Captain America and Star Lord. Marvel seriously need to snap this guy and his wife up. I mean who wouldn't want to see him and Emily Blunt saving the days as two of Earth's Mightiest Heroes?

Pam Beesly/Jenna Fischer

The second half of the Jim and Pam love story, is of course, Pam Beesly. The strong willed receptionist turned paper salesman was one of the best aspect of the show. Her wit and sarcasm won me round and her steadily growing friendship with the office stickler, Dwight, was one of the more touching parts of the story over the course of the nine seasons. Since leaving her desk behind, Fisher has appeared in the film, Are You Here, and guest starred in an episode of Comedy Bang! Bang! She is co-starring with Rob Lowe in the upcoming series You, Me, and the End of the World.

Dwight Schrute/Rainn Wilson

In the real world, Dwight Schrute would be a nightmare to work with. But his no nonsense attitude, coupled with his fondness for Pam and his rivalry with Jim, made him one of the most beloved characters to many fans. His hilarious attitude and fondness for weaponry always provided hours of entertainment, that I could watch over and over. Since the show's end, Wilson has started the online content project "SoulPancake" and appeared in the films Cooties and The Boy, as well as guest starring in an episode of Adventure Time. He also starred in the television show, Backstrom, which ran for one season. He has a few upcoming projects, including the upcoming Smurf sequel, Get Smurfy.

Phyllis Lapin-Vance/Phyllis Smith

Phyllis was the butt of many jokes at the hands of her tactless boss, Michael Scott. She was a woman of strong character and will and during the course of the nine season you really saw her character come into her own. In case you didn't pick up on it in the show, she was married to Bob Vance of Vance Refrigeration. Phyllis Smith has since popped up in The Middle and Trophy Wife in a guest capacity, and had her big breakout voicing the scene-stealing Sadness in Pixar’s Inside Out this summer, with her instantly recognisable voice for fans of the show.

Angela Martin/Angela Kinsey

Everyone's favourite "crazy cat lady" and The Office's Christian stereotype. Angela was the hard ass of the office who judged everyone harshly, regardless of her somewhat precarious romantic endeavours. She broke her co-worker, Andy's heart after she spent most of their engagement having sex with Dwight in secret. But after all of her "romantic" contracts with Dwight, the pair eventually found love and ended the show's run with their wedding. Which was surprisingly emotional. Since the show's end, Angela Kinsey has had guest arcs on New Girl, Your Family or Mine, and Bad Judge, while starring in both of Hulu’s parody series, The Hotwives of Orlando and The Hotwives of Las Vegas.
