It all started with a Tweet:
Dear Twitter Friends it is happening again. http://t.co/r0l9rhK4eB #damngoodcoffee
David Lynch (@DAVID_LYNCH) October 6, 2014
Yes, it is happening again. The third season of Twin Peaks has been a long time coming 27 years, in fact (just a couple years over the 25 Laura Palmer promised us all those years ago). What started as a 1990s cult hit has over the years become a cult must, and if you haven't seen the OG series yet, grab a delicious slice of cherry pie and strap yourself in because you're in for a damn fine ride.
Twin Peaks Season 3 won't ignore the passage of time, picking up 25 years after the end of Season 2, and much of the core original cast will be back in this wonderful and strange town, including Kyle MacLachlan as Special Agent Dale Cooper. David Lynch and Mark Frost will be co-creating all 18 episodes.

'Twin Peaks' Season 3 Premiere Date
So far, the whole production has been shrouded in mystery, including the release date. The only hint the Log has given us is that it will arrive sometime in the first half of 2017. IMDb has a tentative Twin Peaks Season 3 premiere date penciled in for April 2017 let's hope they're right!
'Twin Peaks' Season 3 Trailer
[[jwplayer:X5Jbk2Zh]]
While there have been some teasers released over the past year, the announcement above is the only one to use actual footage (and original series footage at that) from Twin Peaks. The above Twin Peaks Season 3 trailer is sadly out of date, as the show's since changed its premiere date to 2017. Time to put on another pot of coffee, we still have more time to wait.
'Twin Peaks' Season 3 Recap And Review
Once Twin Peaks Season 3 begins, we'll unpack each episode as they come and post it here. David Lynch's mad world of Twin Peaks is going to require a lot of Log consultation if Seasons 1 and 2 are anything to go by, so make sure to check back for Twin Peaks Season 3 recaps and reviews of all 18 episodes.
'Twin Peaks' Season 3 Theories
Twin Peaks Season 3 theories are as plenty and mysterious as the Douglas Firs. As the most plausible ones start to emerge, we'll post them here for your perusal.
'Twin Peaks' Season 3 Characters
The list Twin Peaks Season 3 characters coming back is as follows:
Confirmed For All 18 Episodes:
Special Agent Dale Cooper: Affectionately known as "Coop," the Special Agent is sent to Twin Peaks to investigate the murder of prom queen Laura Palmer. He's a quirky fellow who appreciates cherry pie and a damn good black coffee and he is also mildly obsessed with Douglass Fir trees. He treats everyone he meets with respect and he has an intuitive curiosity for the unknown.
Laura Palmer: Although we first meet her as a corpse, Laura's secret life is revealed to us as the investigation into her death goes on.
Shelly Johnson: A waitress at the Double R Diner, Shelly started a clandestine relationship with teenager Bobby Briggs while she was still married to her criminal abusive husband, Leo.
Bobby Briggs: Although Bobby was still in high school in the original show, he had his finger in a lot of important pies. From starting out as the boyfriend of Laura Palmer to romancing Shelly Johnson to trying to sneak his way into business with Ben Horne, he slunk around Twin Peaks like an egotistical minx.
Lucy Moran: The squeaky-voiced secretary at the Twin Peaks police station, Lucy's earnest attitude and bizarre relationship drama brought comedic flare to the cast of characters in town.
Big Ed Hurley: Tall, strong and principled, Ed owns and operates the town gas station. While Ed married the unstable Nadine, he's always been in love with Norma.
Leland Palmer: The father of Laura Palmer wasn't all he seemed. The all-singing all-dancing paternal figure took a turn for the Bob, so who knows what role he'll play in 18 episodes of the new season.
Sarah Palmer: Laura's poor mother really went through the ringer in Seasons 1 and 2. Let's hope she catches a break in Season 3.
Dr. Lawrence Jacoby: Laura's pervy psychologist will be back, hopefully sporting his mismatched, brightly colored outfits and blue-and-red glasses.
Confirmed For 2 Episodes:
Sheriff Frank Truman: The good sheriff immediately became Agent Cooper's No. 1 ally in Twin Peaks, so it's a shame the sheriff with a heart of gold will only be returning for two episodes unless IMDb's information is lacking.
Confirmed For 1 Episode:
The Giant: The Giant who appears in visions, warning Agent Cooper of dangers to come will return no doubt because "it is happening again."
Phillip Michael "Mike" Gerard (The One Armed Man): Bob's better half, Mike the One Armed Man, will hopefully be back to help in the fight against the Black Lodge.
Nadine Hurley: Big Ed's wife was always a bit haywire, but she really went off the rails after awakening from a coma possessing unnatural strength and thinking she was still in high school.
James Hurley: An original suspect in Laura's murder because of his closeness to both Laura and her best friend Donna, James was a tortured but fundamentally good soul. While his later girlfriend Donna is nowhere to be seen in the cast, James will be roaring back into Twin Peaks on his Harley.
Gordon Cole: The semi-deaf Special Agent, played by director David Lynch himself, always lent a helping hand and was accepting of the stranger happenings in Twin Peaks.
Norma Jennings: The owner of the Double R Diner and lover to Big Ed Hurley, Norma was unfortunately married to lying criminal Hank Jennings.
Jerry Horne: The brother of town bigwig Ben Horne, Jerry's innovative/immoral ideas often clashed with the feeling of the town. He was often traveling while partying it up with potential foreign business partners.
Deputy Hawk: Sadly, one of my favorite characters, Dpt. Hawk, looks set to return for only one episode. Hawk originally made up 1/4 of Coop's trusted law-enforcement team and often brought useful wisdom and wisecracks into the mix of happenings around the town.
Mike Nelson: While Nadine was still living her teenage dream, she got herself a boyfriend, the all-American blond jock Mike.
Andy Brennan: One of the deputies in the Twin Peaks police force, Andy sure wasn't the brightest of the bunch, but he had a heart of gold.
Will Hayward: Curiously, while the rest of the Haywards are MIA, Donna's father, the town physician, will be back for Season 3.
DEA Agent Dennis: The crossdressing agent will be back this season, and I guess we'll find out if he's still rocking stockings.
Audrey Horne: The daughter of Ben Horne seriously crushed on Agent Cooper. While she's only confirmed for one episode, one has to wonder if we'll be seeing more of her.
The Log Lady: The town clairvoyant who consulted with her Log which acted as a kind of spiritual aerial to help with investigations will be returning. Apparently nothing can stop the Log Lady, not even the death of the beloved actress who played her (RIP).
Benjamin Horne: The sleazy businessman, hotel owner, and whorehouse proprietor will be back in some capacity, although likely with a sizeable head wound.
Ronette Pulaski: The girl who was witness to the terrible murder of Laura Palmer will also be back, hopefully to help the powers of the White Lodge.
'Twin Peaks' Season 3 Cast
Kyle MacLachlan: While Kyle made his mark playing Special Agent Dale Cooper on Twin Peaks, you might also recognize him from his roles in Dune, Blue Velvet, Sex and the City, and Portlandia.
Sheryl Lee: Lee's Laura Palmer made such an impression on David Lynch that he wrote in another part for her on the show (as Laura's cousin, Maddy). She can also be seen in One Tree Hill, Winter's Bone, and Caf Society.
Mdchen Amick: Twin Peaks was also Amick's big break, and her character on Twin Peaks, Shelly Johnson, was actually created especially for her.
Dana Ashbrook: Ashbrook plays Bobby Briggs in all three seasons of Twin Peaks.
Kimmy Robertson: The unique and wonderful Kimmy Roberston will reprise her role as Lucy Moran in the third season.
Everett McGill: Big Ed Hurley had been totally MIA since retiring from acting in 1999. However, Lynch was able to track him down with the help of fan site Welcome to Twin Peaks. Well done!
Ray Wise: While Wise ended up beautifully playing the deranged Leland Palmer, he originally auditioned for the role of Dr. Jacoby.
Grace Zabriskie: Zabriskie plays Sarah Palmer, Leland's wife and Laura's mother.
Russ Tamblyn: Tamblyn expertly plays the not-so-good doctor, Lawrence Jacoby.
Robert Forster: Forster turned down the role of Sheriff Frank Truman in the original series due to a prior commitment, but now he's going to play the role he was meant to in Season 3.
Carel Struycken: Dutch actor Carel Struycken plays the Giant. You might recognize him from his role as Lurch in The Addams Family, or from The Witches of Eastwick and Star Trek: The Next Generation.
Al Strobel: He plays Mike, the One Armed Man. His acting credits are mostly from Twin Peaks-related content, which is a shame because he gives a damn fine performance.
Wendy Robie: She plays the unstable Nadine Hurley on Twin Peaks.
James Marshall: He plays James Hurley on the show, but you might also recognize him from Growing Pains and the wrestling movie Gladiator.
David Lynch: The famed director himself decided to get in on the on-screen action as Special Agent Gordon Cole.
Peggy Lipton: She plays Norma Jennings on the show.
Michael Horse: He'll reprise his role as Deputy Hawk.
Gary Hershberger: He'll reprise his role as Mike Nelson. You might recognize him from Six Feet Under.
Harry Goaz: He'll take up the mantel of Deputy Andy Brennan again. Goaz was actually the driver of a car Lynch rode in. They got to talking and that's how he was cast. Fun fact!
Warren Frost: He'll play the good Dr. William Hayward again on the show. You might recognize him from Seinfeld.
David Duchovny: He'll be reprising his first TV role as DEA Agent Dennis. He's since gone on to have quite the impressive career. You might recognize him from The X-Files and Californication.
Sherilyn Fenn: She plays Audrey Horne on the show. You might recognize her from Gilmore Girls and Shameless.
Catherine E. Coulson: While Coulson unfortunately passed away in 2015, she is set to appear once again as The Log Lady on the show. It remains unclear if they were able to film new scenes with her before her passing or if they'll be using old footage.
Richard Beymer: He plays Ben Horne on the show. You might recognize him from the OG West Side Story and Murder She Wrote.
Phoebe Augustine: She plays the witness to Laura's murder, Ronette Pulaski, on Twin Peaks. She also appeared in Lynch's Mulholland Dr. in an uncredited role in Club Silencio.
Miguel Ferrer: He'll be back as Agent Albert Rosenfeld. You might recognize him from Desperate Housewives, Young Justice, Iron Man 3, and NCIS: Los Angeles.
Dep Kirkland: He'll be playing a new character on the show, Chief Mike Boyd. Is he the new Twin Peaks police chief?
Michael Cera: The famous nerd-next-door young actor will be in an unknown role on the show. You might have seen him in Juno, Scott Pilgrim vs. the World, Superbad, and Arrested Development.
Amanda Seyfried: She'll be playing Becky, who is perhaps a high school student? Or am I stuck in 2004 with her role in Mean Girls? You might also recognize her from Les Misrables and Mamma Mia!.
Caleb Landry Jones: He's playing someone called Steven. Is he also a high school student? You might recognize him from Antiviral, No Country for Old Men, and X-Men: First Class.

Josh McDermitt: The Walking Dead mullet-man will be in an unknown role.
Jennifer Jason Leigh: Coming off her nomination for Best Supporting Actress in The Hateful Eight, Leigh will be in an as-yet unknown role on Twin Peaks.
Tim Roth: The famed actor also appeared in 2015's The Hateful Eight and has an unknown role on Twin Peaks. You might have also seen him in Pulp Fiction, Reservoir Dogs, Planet of the Apes and many more films.
Tom Sizemore: Unknown role. You might recognize him from Black Hawk Down, Saving Private Ryan, Natural Born Killers, and Heat.
Jessica Szohr: Unknown role. You might have seen her in Gossip Girl and the riveting Piranha 3D.

Ashley Judd: Unknown role. You might have seen her in the Divergent series.
Monica Bellucci: Unknown role. This famous Italian actress has been in everything from The Matrix to James Bond's Spectre.
Jim Belushi: Unknown role. You might recognize him from According to Jim, Red Heat, and K-9. His brother was also the late, great John Belushi.
Francesca Eastwood: The daughter of Clint Eastwood will be appearing in an unknown role.
'Twin Peaks' Season 3 Spoilers
Since the whole set has been on lockdown and the cast were only given the script with their own lines the morning of their shoots after which they had to return the pages, which were then shredded under supervision we know next to no Twin Peaks Season 3 spoilers. However, if we look at the cast, who's showing up and (presumably, but only according to IMDb and their knowledge is almost as limited as ours) for how long, there are plenty of hints.
There have only been a handful of actors who have spoken about their roles in interviews, but they've kept the spoilers to a deadly minimum. Here's what we've found out from an interview Harry Goaz (who plays Deputy Andy on the show) gave with Dallas News:
Deputy Andy (Harry Goaz) is still a deputy, but he's now got his own office with a nameplate on the desk.
In addition, the release of show co-creator Mark Frost's book The Secret History of Twin Peaks has shed light on some season finale questions:
Audrey Horne survived the bank explosion. She was the only one to make it out alive.
Ben Horne is also alive. He stayed by his daughter's hospital bed while she recovered after the explosion and changed his more depraved ways.
Dr. Jacoby's license to practice psychology was suspended indefinitely in Washington after his treatment of Laura Palmer's case came under scrutiny. He subsequently moved to Hawaii, although we know he'll be back in Twin Peaks for some reason.
Hank, Norma's abusive husband, died after being knifed in prison.
Major Briggs and Agent Cooper have been missing since Cooper went to visit him after coming back from the Black Lodge. Briggs's final entry in his dossier is as follows:
Only moments ago, while writing the previous passage [in his dossier], Cooper called, as I had requested. Hes on his way to the house right now -- the bell just rang, hes here. Betty is letting him in ...
12:05 PM MARCH 28, 1989
He just left. Somethings wrong. The message holds the answer, just as I thought, but Ive misinterpreted it. Protocols are in place. I must act quickly. Im heading to the LPA alone.
* M * A * Y * D * A * Y *
We might even consider the summary of the book to contain spoilers. It says that, 25 years after the season finale, the FBI is sent an anonymous dossier that contains files, newspaper clippings, classified information, an autopsy report and more to do with Twin Peaks. A female FBI agent goes through the files and we the reader bear witness. But who is this FBI agent? Will we meet her in Twin Peaks Season 3?
