Game of Thrones Season 7 News, Rumors & Updates

Updated: 9/9/2016

For a hot minute, it seemed like the whole world was whispering rumors that Dame Angela Lansbury of Bedknobs and Broomsticks & Murder, She Wrote would be joining the cast of Game of Thrones for Season 7. Unfortunately, yesterday her team told Entertainment Weekly that the news was a load of baloney. *sigh*

Maisie Williams Read The Script For 'GOT' Season 7 And She Says Sh*t Is Going To Get REAL

The TV Choice Awards have come and gone on the night of Monday September 6, and GoT brought home the award for Best International Drama for the second time (the last time was for Season 4).

On the sexier side of things, is there a reason behind all that superfluous nudity in Game of Thrones? TV critic and blogger Miles McNutt coined the term "sexposition" after watching all the sexy scenes that actually contained important background plot information.

Game of Thrones Season 7 Premiere Date

While we don't know the exact Game of Thrones season 7 premiere date just yet, we do know it's going to be sometime in Summer 2017. Creators Benioff and Weiss said that the delay was necessary in order to allow for wintry weather, even in their usual filming locations.

The Complete List Of Every Death On 'Game Of Thrones' So Far

And for those characters who've made to Season 7 of Game of Thrones, here's a recap of who they are and what they're about:

Jon Snow is the White Wolf, the King in the North! He spent his whole life believing that he was the bastard son of Ned Stark, but now, thanks to Bran, we know that he's actually the most-likely-legitimate son of Lyanna Stark and Rhaegar Targaryen. Only, he doesn't know that yet.

Daenerys Stormborn of the House Targaryen, the First of Her Name, The Unburnt, Queen of Meereen, Queen of the Andals and the Rhoynar and the First Men, Khaleesi of the Great Grass Sea, Breaker of Chains and Mother of Dragons. She's coming for you, Westeros. Watch out.

Tyrion Lannister is now officially Hand of the Queen to Daenerys, which is going to make things extra dramatic when he sails back to Westeros where his own sister who wants his head on a spike is currently occupying the Iron Throne.

Cersei Lannister, the First of Her Name, Queen of the Andals and the First Men, Protector of the Seven Kingdoms. This kween has now probably killed more innocent people than anyone else, thanks to the epic wildfire explosion that indirectly landed her on the Iron Throne.

Jaime Lannister, Captain of Cersei's Queensguard, and her twin brother/lover. Throughout the six seasons of GoT, the Kingslayer has actually revealed himself to be not such a bad guy after all. But we'll see what happens when he finally confronts Cersei about her ascension to the Iron Throne.

Sansa Stark, Lady of Winterfell and Wardeness of the North, Sansa has proved herself to be a total game player after she completely saved Jon's ass during the Battle of the Bastards. But tensions are likely to be brewing as her half-brother has just become King in the North, and Littlefinger told her he wants her to be his queen. *Shudder*

Arya Stark has been a fan favorite since day one. Her time in Braavos studying to become Faceless came to a swift end when she sliced up the Waif, stole a bunch of faces and headed back to Westeros. Now she's gotten vengeance on the repulsive Walder Frey and his sons, and is heading back to Winterfell (probably?) to be reunited with her brother and sister.

Bran Stark has been busy studying warging and greensight with the Three-Eyed Raven North of the Wall, but now that nearly all of his companions have died and he's acquired knowledge that could send the Seven Kingdoms up in wildfire (again), what's his next move going to be in Season 7?

Theon Greyjoy seemed like he could never recover after Ramsay's cruelty turned him into the sad, pathetic creature known as Reek. But slowly, he's been regaining his humanity, and is turning out to be a slightly more honorable person than he ever was before. He's currently at his sister Yara's side as they sail with Daenerys for Westeros.

Petyr "Littlefinger" Baelish, the master manipulator of Westeros finally admitted that he's after the Iron Throne. While his claim is a pretty weak one, he's so crafty that he just might be able to weasel his way into more power than is good for anybody.

What better way to show your House loyalty, even during the off-season, than with some Westorosi swag?

Game of Thrones Books

George R.R. Martin is the real hero of Game of Thrones. His A Song of Ice and Fire books series provided the foundation on which Benioff and Weiss created the hit show, and for that, we are ever grateful.

George R.R. Martin's Original Plan For 'Game of Thrones' Involved A Lannister-style Stark Romance!

By Season 5, the show has already over taken the books in terms of content, but since Martin is somewhat involved in the show, who's to say that we won't see them more or less line up again in the future?

Martin has currently published five novels in the Song of Ice and Fire series, with two more on the way.

Published:

A Game of Thrones (1996)

A Clash of Kings (1998)

A Storm of Swords (2000)

A Feast for Crows (2005)

A Dance with Dragons (2011)

Planned:

The Winds of Winter

A Dream of Spring (Formerly A Time for Wolves)

Prequels:

The Hedge Knight (1998)

The Sworn Sword (2003)

The Mystery Knight (2010)
