It's been a long time coming, but after months of freaky teasers and tricky misdirects, Ryan Murphy has finally revealed the theme for Season 6 of American Horror Story. A plethora of theories suggesting the theme was everything from 'aliens' to a 'Hollywood' fell by the wayside during the Season 6 premier, which revealed the title to be none other than "My Roanoke Nightmare."

Set photos leaked last month revealed that the Roanoke Colony's disappearance would play a role in Season 6, but the genius marketing campaign subsequently tried its hardest to steer audiences away from this conclusion using a variety of bizarre teasers.
Early on in the promotional campaign, Murphy's team revealed that only one of the numerous teasers was actually genuine, while the rest were just a 'perfect illusion'. Fans assumed that once the first episode aired, we'd finally know which one of the trailers was the real deal. Surprisingly, we're still none the wiser, as 'Chapter 1' alluded to a number of the teasers throughout.
The Mist

Last week, it appeared as though we had finally uncovered the title when Rotten Tomatoes leaked a title on the show's official page called American Horror Story: The Mist. Admittedly, it was hard to imagine how such an ambiguous concept could play a pivotal role for an entire season.
Mist actually did play a prominent role in the Season 6 premiere. Mist swirled around as Sarah Paulson's character, Shelby Miller, was attacked in the tub outside, and again when she was ambushed by a cult in the final scene. So far though, other teasers seem to be a more relevant than this one.
Pitch A Fit

Pitchforks also played a key part in the opening episode for Season 6 of American Horror Story, from the moment that Cuba Gooding Jr.'s character Matt Miller spotted the cult on cameras he had installed. However, the identity of the 'cult' still remains unclear. Are these figures dead or alive? Are they Roanoke ghosts, or something else entirely?
The Harvest

In one of the episode's most chilling scenes, Shelby and Angela Bassett's character Lee Miller were trapped in the basement while the house invaders created the world's most terrifying art installation upstairs. When the pair resurfaced, they found that the cult had strung up dozens of freaky doll like figures made of straw that are more than just a bit reminiscent of The Blair Witch Project.
Post Op

Just before the credits rolled at the end of Chapter 1, a man staggered out of the darkness towards Shelby who looks like he's just been scalped. Not only does this provide one of the first direct links to the Roanoke Colony (as scalping was more of a common practice in the 1500's), but it also looks remarkably similar to this teaser which depicts a devastating head wound.
Wind Chimes

In what's undoubtedly the most memorable scene of American Horror Story: My Roanoke Nightmare so far, Shelby walks outside her house to discover that the hailstones she can hear are actually human teeth falling from the sky.
Out of all the trailers released in the run up to the Season 6 premiere, it looks like Wind Chimes is the one that's most likely to be genuine, as teeth fall to the ground in a way that perfectly echoes Shelby's traumatic experience.
As if that wasn't enough, Wind Chimes was also one of the six trailers included in the official FX sweepstake which reportedly contained the only genuine teaser. The other five candidates were Post Op, Lullaby, The Shadow, Blind Date, and Camp Site. While some of these other clips were alluded to in the Season 6 premiere, our money's on Wind Chimes, which contained the strongest visual reference.

However, the clip still provides us with very little information regarding what will happen further down the line in Season 6, and we wouldn't be surprised if the teeth phenomenon is linked with aliens in some way. After all, this wouldn't be the first time that American Horror Story has thrown in a number of horror/sci-fi conventions into the melting pot all at once. Just take a look at American Horror Story: Asylum if you need reminding.
At the end of the day though, even if the show runners ended up referring to more teasers than we originally expected, we're just beyond happy/terrified that American Horror Story is finally back on our screens.
