Suicide Squad 2 is eyeing Hacksaw Ridge director Mel Gibson to be its director. He has been hearing the speculations about his possible work with the film. His attendance at the Oscars 2017 cleared the issue and he said that nothing has been finalized yet.
Mel Gibson has been on a hiatus before he worked on the Andrew Garfield movie. The unforgettable PR incident a decade ago has caused him to stray away from mainstream. When he read the story of the World War II soldier Desmond Doss, he said that he was like “slapped in the face.” The very pages that he was reading made him cry and almost begging him to put the story into a film. And the rest is history.
The film has 6 nominations including Best Picture and Best Director. But the Best Picture was taken by Moonlight and the Best Director went to Damien Chazelle of La La Land.
Suicide Squad sequel as been planned out right after the first movie became a blockbuster. Suicide Squad 2 has been linked to his name for some time. But his Oscars 2017 red carpet appearance paved the way to clear the status of his involvement in the film.
Suicide Squad 2 Might Get Mel Gibson’s Nod To Helm Project
He said that he does not know yet but he admitted there have been some people offering him the script. But he cleared that no deal has been confirmed.However he said, he loves to do it as reported by Movie Web.
The Margot Robbie movie received mixed reviews but the divisiveness did not affect its performance at the box office. It is this year’s winner for Best Hairstyling and Makeup. The movie made a killing at the box office with $745 million global earnings.
The movie soundtrack was also nominated for Best Compilation Soundtrack for Visual Media. The song was certified platinum and has sold 1 million copies and counting. With Mel Gibson at the director’s chair, Suicide Squad 2 will have a strong chance of getting better reviews.
The director of the original movie is now into the Harley Quinn spinoff titled Gotham City Sirens. Warner Bros. is prioritizing Gibson for the project. But in case he turns it down, Daniel Espinosa (Safe House) will be the next choice.
Mel Gibson is preparing for another gigantic project, The Passion of the Christ 2 but he is in the conceptualizing phase yet. So he has all the time to focus in case he accepts Suicide Squad 2. Margot Robbie, Jared Leto, and Will Smith have decided to reprise their respective roles.
