The Norway royal family celebrated the 25th anniversary of the ascension to the throne of King Harald over the weekend.

The monarch was joined by his wife Queen Sonja and other members of the royal family including son Crown Prince Hakoon and his wife Crown Princess Mette-Marit. They celebrated the occasion with winter games in front of the palace at Slottsplassen.

It was a day of fun and games for the Norwegian royals. The king and queen both wrapped up in coats and gloves as they greeted the public from their palace balcony. They then tried their hand at skiing and ice slides. Besides, the family enjoyed their day out with other activities such as cross-country skiing, snowboarding and ski jumping in honour of King Harald’s milestone day, Hello Magazine reports.

Matte-Marit’s kids Prince Scerre Magnus and Princess Ingrid Alexandra and her son from her first marriage, Marius Borg Hoiby and Princess Martha Louise also attended with her children Maud, Lea and Emma.

“This will be a celebration in the spirit of the royal family, and it has been wonderful to get a taste of it now that snow has covered Slottsplassen and children are playing out there,” Royal Palace communications manager Marianne Hagen said.

Hagen said that the event was organized at the request of the Harald.

The royal family also released a series of new official portraits which includes a shot of the family posing in the line of succession, The Royal Court reports.

Harald is joined by his son Haakon and granddaughter Ingrid Alexandra, who is second in line to the throne. This year the Norway royals have been photographed by Jørgen Gomnæs.
