Jordan Peele, actor and the other half of the comedy duo Key and Peele, has made his directorial debut in Get Out. The comedy horror flick made its premiere in the Sundance Film Festival earlier this year and opened in theaters in the United States last week. Here are the reasons why everyone needs to watch the movie.

It Received Great Reviews

Get Out received accolade from critics of Sundance Film Festival and the movie-going audience in the US. The horror movie recorded a 99% fresh ratings from Rotten Tomatoes and a score of 83 from Metacritic. Reviewers from publications like The New Yorker, The Guardian, Collider and New York Observer urged their readers to go out and watch the movie.

Even the audience loved it! The movie was touted a success after it grossed over $42 million in the US box office. It earned $33 million in the opening weekend alone.

It Explores Relevant Issues

But one of the things lauded in the horror movie is the discussion of relevant issues such as racism. The movie Get Out follows Chris Washington (Daniel Kaluuya), a photographer who goes on a trip to meet his white girlfriend’s family. As Salon noted, the movie has captured the horror of a black American in all-white spaces.

Meanwhile, Esquire bragged that it is the best movie ever made about American slavery. Here is what critic Steven Thrasher said about the movie: “It is a searing indictment of the on-going theft of the Black body, from the NBA draft to the beds of white sex partners who don’t treat their lovers as fully human.”
