Great news, Clone Club members! BBC finally renews the critically acclaimed “Orphan Black” for Season 3. “Orphan Black” will return in 2015. According to The Hollywood Reporter (THR), BBC America general manager Perry Simon confirmed that the series has been renewed for Season 3. The news was announced during the Television Critics Association press tour at the Beverly Hilton Hotel. “Orphan Black” returns for Season 3 with another 10-episode season order in 2015. It was also reported that the production will resume in September in Toronto, Canada.
“Orphan Black” first aired on March 30, 2013 in Canada through the Space channel and in United States with BBC America. It is created and executively produced by the creative duo, Graeme Manson and John Fawcett, who serve as writer (Manson) and director (Fawcett). They are joined by other executive producers, Ivan Schneeberg and David Fortier, through Temple Street Productions.
“Orphan Black” cast members are Tatiana Maslany, Jordan Gavaris (Felix Dawkins), Dylan Bruce (Paul Dierden), Kevin Hanchard (Detective Arthur “Art” Bell), Michael Mando (Victor “Vic” Schmidt) Évelyne Brochu (Dr. Delphine Cormier), and Maria Doyle Kennedy (Siobhan Sadler). Tatiana Maslany’s roles include Sarah Manning, Elizabeth “Beth” Childs, Alison Hendrix, Cosima Niehaus, Helena and Rachel Duncan.
Since the series was aired in 2013, Maslany’s multiple roles had been well received by critics. She had received several award nominations, including a Golden Globe nomination, several Critics’ Choice Television Awards and Television Critics Association Awards. The series also received recognitions and awards from the 2014 Peabody Awards and other award-giving organizations.
“Orphan Black” started off with the journey of Sarah Manning as she tries to grasp the idea that she has a set of clones who have different lives. Her already complicated life with Kira, her foster family and a violent boyfriend started to become more chaotic than ever. She had a brief encounter with Beth Childs, who killed herself by jumping in front of a passing train. She also met an intelligent look-alike named Cosima, a “soccer mom” named Alison and several other clones. Their interconnected lives continued to get complicated when they learned their connection to a top-secret project headed by DYAD and the military.
News about the “Orphan Black” Season 3 renewal came weeks after Season 2 ended with an explosive cliffhanger in Episode 10 “By Means Which Have Never Yet Been Tried” last June 21, 2014.
In a separate interview with THR, Fawcett talked about the series as it continues to go further with the Project LEDA and its top-secret counterpart, Project Castor. Moreover, there is another set of clones aside from Sarah and her DNA sisters of the Project Leda. This time, it was revealed that Mark (Ari Millen) and his male clones were made possible by the military.
“A lot of the things that we put in motion at the end of season two are obviously big story components going forward and new pieces to the puzzle. We believe in giving the audience answers, but we have our mysteries and we want to earn the answers. This is kind of a new aspect to the larger puzzle that is Orphan Black,” said Fawcett in the THR report.
