he Last of Us has claimed another victory, being voted as IGN’s Best Overall Game for 2013.

Naughty Dog’s survival-thriller beat stiff competition from Rockstar Game’s open world action-adventure Grand Theft Auto V to claim the game of the year style award. It also beat The Legend of Zelda: A Link Between Worlds, Tomb Raider, Gone Home, Dota 2, Super Mario 3D World, Tearaway and Bioshock Infinite.

Making this their fifth win for game of the year, The Last of Us currently holds off Grand Theft Auto V, who have earned four game of the year awards, by one award. GTA V have a chance to equal The Last of Us’ number of awards if it can be crowned game of the year at the upcoming Game Developers Choice Awards in February.

The game, which debuted in May last year to worlwide critical acclaim, also bagged wins in 3 other categories including Best Overall Sound, Best Overall Graphics – Technology, Best Overall Action-Adventure Game.

Grand Theft Auto V, which launched in September and earned worldwide critical acclaim as well as $1 billion in sales within three days, took home just one award for Best Overall Action Game.

In other categories, Dota 2 took home two awards for Best Overall Strategy & Tactics Game and Best Overall Multiplayer Game. Gone Home also won two awards for Best Story and Best Overall Adventure Game whilst Device 6 took home 2 awards for Best Overall Puzzle Game and Best Overall Innovation. Bioshock Infinite took 2 awards also for Best Overall Shooter Game and Best Overall Graphics – Art Design.

Best Overall Music went to The Legend of Zelda: A Link Between Worlds, MLB 13 surprisingly won for Best Overall Sports Game, Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn was voted as Best Overall MMORPG Game, Ni no Kuni: Wrath of the White Witch won for Best Overall Role-Playing Game, Forza Motorsport 5 won for Best Overall Racing Game, Super Mario 3D World was voted as Best Overall Platformer Game and Injustice: Gods Among Us took home the Best Overall Fighting Game award.
