Jacking Chan’s impressive combination of martial arts comedic wit earned him an Honorary Academy Award last week. Now, the 62-year-old is returning to his reliable (and less dangerous) side career: voice acting.
Chan is part of a talented group of actors lending their vocal cords to The LEGO Ninjago Movie. But before the release of that film in 2017, Chan’s character, Master Wu, is getting a test run in the short film, The Master: A LEGO Ninjago Short.
USA Today unveiled a clip from the flick on Tuesday. You don’t hear much from Chan in the brief scene, but Warner Bros. perfectly transforms the playful physical nature of his performances into LEGO form as Wu chases a destructive chicken.
“My writing partner [Ross Evans] and I went really off the wall showing Master Wu desperately wanting to star in his own short film, but this chicken keeps coming in and not allowing him to have his moment,” co-writer and director Jon Saunders told USA Today.
Justin Theroux, who voices the villain Garmadon in Ninjago, narrates the short, which debuts ahead of the animated feature, Storks, on September 23.
