Voxel Blast Launches On Steam

Costa Rica-based game developer Ceiba Software & Arts has just released their new title Voxel Blast on Steam.

Described as a “neon space arcade shooter”, Voxel Blast has you piloting one of three different types of ships to defeat autonomous, rogue agents from wreaking havoc in the space system. Each of three types of ships, the Taurus, Orion, and Aries, have their own unique abilities and weapons such as miniguns and tracer missiles. You will be able to unlock more types of ships as you progress through the game.

There are four game modes to choose from: Challenge mode gives you a chance to hone your skills before moving onto the harder modes; Survival mode, which will have you facing endless waves of enemies; Arcade mode that serves as the story mode for this game; and Multiplayer mode where you can dogfight with other players.

One of the key features about the AI in Voxel Blast is that the enemies you face are always evolving. For example, you might be fighting a small group of snake-like creatures when they suddenly combine their powers to create much tougher monsters; you will need to quickly evaluate the new situation and adapt to the new and improved enemies if you wish to defeat them.

“When we started production on Voxel Blast, we asked ourselves: ‘How would enemies behave if they could work together?’ The answer was simple: They would evolve,” said president of Ceiba Software & Arts. “Voxel Blast is survival of the fittest. In nature, you evolve to survive – so it only makes sense that the creatures in our game would do the same.”

The games aesthetics are unique, which features a flat-shaded neon colored art style based on abstract sculptures and futurist art accompanied by a thumping electronic soundtrack.

Ceiba Software & Arts was founded in 2015, and consists of a small development studio located in Costa Rica. They began operations with two projects: Voxel Blast and Project S.O.O.T. The developer has a keen interest in the artistic potential of video games, “not only in the visual component, but the combination of graphics, audio and interaction”.

Voxel Blast is now available for Linux, Mac, and Windows on Steam for $11.99. However, if you buy it within the first seven days of Voxel Blast’s launch, you can get it at a 20% discount for $9.59.
