Hello youth paddler parents,
FIBArk is excited to announce our spring paddling course. Starting in April, we're going to partner with the Rocky Mountain Outdoor Center to offer a six week kayaking course for beginners and intermediates at the Hot Springs Pool in Salida! This course will consist of weekly structured pool instruction for kids ages 8 to 18. All the necessary gear will be provided. The cost of the course will be $50 per person and registrants will need to commit to all six sessions. I am sending this out to everyone who has participated in or expressed interest in previous FIBArk sessions first because we usually fill up quickly.

Bonus Class: Sunday, May 25th as part of CKS PaddleFest, we will have a practice session on McPhelmee Pond in Buena Vista from 2:30 - 4:00 followed by a fun pond slalom race at 4:30 p.m. Prizes will be given to ALL participants.
**Note: There will NOT be a class on Sunday, May 4th because the pool will be closed for cleaning.
Structure:
Our intention is to give quality instruction on a consistent basis developing skills so participants are river ready in the summer. Each class will build on the skills learned in the previous week. Skills learned will include basic familiarity with equipment and nomenclature, basic strokes, basic balancing, boat safety, advanced strokes, advanced balancing, wet exits, T-rescues, river hydrology, river safety and rolling. Each class will include instruction on the day's lesson mixed with fun, team-building activities as well. Previous experience in kayaking isn't necessary; however youth with some previous experience will be encouraged to build on the skills they already possess.
Instructors:
We will have American Canoe Association certified instructors at each session, and we're planning on occasionally bringing in coaches from other programs around the state to have fun with the kids as well.
