1961 Holden Custom

Qualified at: Summernats 30

BASED on a Steve Vesperman concept drawing, penned back in 1994, Kylie and Adam Perry’s wild FB Holden has the front panels grafted onto the rear and rear grafted onto the front – with the glass-house and doors from a R33 Nissan Skyline. Up front, a Holden FB quarter and Nissan guard were grafted together, while the FB taillight housings have been fitted with Fiat 500 headlights. Heading ‘round to the rear, rear quarters blend into FB headlight buckets, compete with Galaxie taillights. Now you know why it’s called Tailspin. The R33 doors, doors and glass-house round out the wild custom transformation.

Compared to the outside, the modern-looking red interior could be considered tame – however it too has been totally transformed. The EK dash is filled with retro-looking yet modern gauges, there’s full A/C, comfy buckets, plus plenty of neat, one-off touches – including a grunty Pioneer sound system.

This full transformation continues under the silky-smooth skin, with an injected 5.0-litre olden V8 for motivation followed by a TH700 trans, BorgWarner LSD diff. Taking of steering and stopping is a Rod Tech twin-arm front suspension set-up with coil-overs, Torana rack ‘n’ pinion steering and VT Commodore brakes 300mm DBA/PBR brakes. Despite the insane amount of modification that exists in this vehicle, it has been built to a super-elite show-winning standard.
