Australian MotoGP legend Mick Doohan was one of the supernatural talents during the 90s who was able to meticulously reign-in the power and insanity of the Repsol Honda NSR500; a 499cc, V4 two-stroke machine that pushed copious amounts of power to the rear wheel.
If the combination of words like “two-stroke, 500cc V4” don’t intimidate you, then the addition of the ‘Big Bang engine’ to the mix would certainly do, unless you are Mick Doohan himself off course. Just imagine the raw, near 200bhp of power being spit out by the four-cylinder two-stroke engine with electronics and rider aids at a rudimentary standard when compared to today. Add in the fact that Honda had near-perfected the Big-bang firing order in which all the engine cylinders would go through their power strokes almost at the same time. It’s lunacy!
This hear is a beautiful Tamiya 1/12 Repsol Honda NSR500 that’s so detailed that it reminds us of the actual GP motorcycle so distinctly. This miniature diecast motorcycle has been hand-assembled and shot to perfection by Lu Yen Wen, a scale and miniature diecast model enthusiast who has a sort of niche fan following when it comes to diecast motorcycle scale models. The details on the miniature model are inch-perfect, which when combines with Lu’s incredible detailed photography makes the Honda NSR500 scale model almost indistinguishable from the actual motorcycle.
