Earlier this month, we reported on the partnership between Yamaha and Movistar that would place the Spanish telecommunications company as title sponsor for the Yamaha MotoGP team for the next five years. The deal came at the eleventh hour, as contract negotiations and minor details needed to be sorted. Now, just days before the start of the 2014 season at the Grand Prix of Qatar, Yamaha has revealed its official 2014 MotoGP livery.

As you can see from the photos, the Movistar branding takes the prime spot on the fairings of Jorge Lorenzo’s and Valentino Rossi’s M1 machines, but it also shares a portion of that space with Yamaha’s secondary sponsor, Monster energy drinks. Nonetheless, with the blue background and familiar green letter “M,” to this MotoGP enthusiast, the graphics take me back a decade, to an era when Movistar branding was associated with Yamaha’s chief rival: Honda.
