KURT NICOLL JOINS FORCES WITH ALTA MOTORS FOR ENDUROCROSS

AMERICAN HONDA SIGNS KEN ROCZEN TO MULTI-YEAR CONTRACT
Honda press release: American Honda Motor. Co. is proud to announce the highly anticipated signing of two-time AMA Pro Motocross Champion Ken Roczen to a three-year agreement with Team Honda HRC. The young German rider will pilot the all-new 2017 CRF450R alongside new teammate Cole Seely in the AMA Supercross and AMA Motocross series. Honda has released a special video to celebrate the announcement.
Roczen already has a long list of accomplishments to his name, including the 2014 and 2016 AMA Pro Motocross 450MX Championships and nine premier-class AMA Supercross victories. Aboard 250cc equipment, he earned the 2013 250SX West title, and prior to coming to the U.S. to race full-time, he won the 2011 MX2 World Championship. Roczen is confident in his ability to build on that success, and he has Honda’s full support and commitment.
“I’m really excited to be a part of Team Honda HRC,” Roczen said. “I’m always looking to improve myself, as well as my surroundings, team and equipment, which is why I decided to make a switch. I want to have the upper hand on every other rider out there, and I think I have that with Honda. Things are still new, but I’m feeling amazing and blown away by the bike and the atmosphere of the team. I think that when any rider makes a switch to a new team, he doesn’t fully know what to expect, so having such a smooth transition so far has been great.
Big changes like this are great opportunities to make a statement, and I think doing an awesome video to announce something so special and big is really unique, especially to our industry. I’m excited that Honda was on board with the idea. Other sports do things like this, but it’s kind of a first for someone in the motocross industry. Most of the inspiration came from my buddy Ken Block, who always puts out killer videos. I talked to Honda about it and they were super stoked. Everyone worked hard to get it done, and the finished product is great.”

1981 MOTOCROSS DES NATIONS DOCUMENTARY PRODUCTION UNDERWAY IN MAGGIORA, ITALY
PDM TV press release: A new documentary film about America’s first Motocross des Nations (MXdN) victory in 1981 will begin shooting this week in Maggiora, Italy during the 2016 Monster Energy Motocross Of Nations Presented by Fiat. The film titled “1981” will be produced and directed by Todd Huffman, acclaimed creator of The Motocross Files TV series and 2014’s “: The John Penton Story.”
In 1981 it looked as though America would not have a team attending the annual MXdN event, often referred to as “The Olympics of Motocross”. Not until American Honda team managers Roger DeCoster and Dave Arnold were approached by Motocross Action Magazine editor Dick Miller, to send American Honda’s team riders Danny LaPorte, Donnie Hansen, Chuck Sun and Johnny O’Mara. In previous attempts the US had never won the MXdN and popular opinion held that this squad “America wasn’t sending their best.” LaPorte, Hansen, Sun and O’Mara were dubbed “The B Team” but their shocking 1981 victory proved the naysayers wrong and established their version of “The Miracle on Ice.”
1981 tells the story through the eyes of the racers, managers, mechanics, competitors, spectators, fans and the media as it has never been told before. Using interviews, archival film and reenactments, 1981 is the story that motocross fans have been waiting to see on the big screen. “Since I have been telling motocross stories on TV and in our films, this story has always risen to the top as one that needs it’s own voice,” said Huffman. “I’m looking forward to finally bringing it to fans around everywhere who love motocross and celebrate the underdogs.”
1981 is supported initially by Bel-Ray Lubricants as a sponsor brand who was a key partner in the original 1981 Team USA success in Europe and has continued to support motorized competition to this day. “Bel-Ray has a long history in supporting important championships and this 1981 event was particularly special because of our involvement with that team and those riders,” said Bel-Ray’s Marketing Director, Karl Locascio. “It will be great to celebrate their story again.”
Director Huffman is using the 2016 Motocross of Nations event in Maggiora, Italy to begin filming as a tribute to the 30th anniversary of America’s “Dream Team” win at the same location in the 1986 Motocross des Nations. Team members Ricky Johnson, David Bailey and Johnny O’Mara will be in Maggiora for 30th anniversary ceremonies. Film production will continue through 2017 with an anticipated release theatrically in 2018.

Husqvarna press release: Husqvarna Motorcycles will have no fewer than eight riders competing among the 38 countries taking part in the 2016 FIM Motocross of Nations, being held this weekend at the iconic Maggiora track in Italy. Among them Rockstar Energy Husqvarna Factory Racing riders Max Nagl, Max Anstie and Jason Anderson will represent Germany, Great Britain and the United States respectively.Arguably the most highly anticipated event of the season, for Husqvarna Motorcycles the FIM Motocross of Nations will see MXGP regular Max Nagl and US Supercross and Motocross racer Jason Anderson compete together for the first time in 2016. Representing team USA Anderson will contest the Open class while Nagl, who recently wrapped-up the 2016 MXGP championship third in the final series’ standings, will race in the MXGP category for Germany.

Max Anstie will lead Husqvarna Motorcycles in the MX2 class where he will represent Great Britain. Looking to end his time aboard 250cc 4-stroke machinery with a strong result before his switch to MXGP class competition in 2017, Anstie is focused on challenging for the MX2 class victory. Rockstar Energy Husqvarna Factory Racing’s Pascal Rauchenecker will return to motocross competition for only the second time this season following a year competing in the Enduro World Championship. Pascal is set to compete for Team Austria in the Open class.

Honda press release: Once again, both Gautier Paulin and Evgeny Bobryshev have been selected to represent their countries of France and Russia at the Motocross of Nations, riding the CRF450RW at this ‘Olympics of motocross’. Not long after finishing the 2016 MXGP season in America, those selected riders will be back in action again this weekend at the classic Maggiora track in Italy, where the atmosphere will reach fever pitch in this already motocross-crazed nation. Paulin and Team France are out to defend their title as reigning Nations winners in 2014 and 2015, where they took an emotional victory in front of a packed home crowd.
A total of 20 CRF machines will line up to do battle at Maggiora this weekend, including the three works machines of Paulin, Bobryshev and World Champion Tim Gajser, and Team Japan is an all-Honda affair, especially as it is headed by Team Manager and HRC engineer Masaki Serizawa. Leading the charge for Team Japan will also be HRC’s Japan MX superstar Akira Narita. Once again Evgeny Bobryshev will ride the all-new 2017 CRF450RW. The Motocross of Nations selects the best three riders from each participating country for a head-to-head for national pride. Action on track gets underway on Saturday 24 September for practice and qualifying, and the gates drop for the three races, pitting MXGP, MX2 and Open class riders against each other, on Sunday.
Gautier Paulin—Team France: “I have such great memories of the Nations, especially last year and Team France winning in front of all the home fans. This year we have a great team again with Benoit and Romain. We’ve been training together in Italy this week and we’re all working hard to defend our victory. I think everyone in motocross loves the Nations as it’s such a special race, and we’re all really looking forward to it. The atmosphere from last year will be hard to beat but Maggiora is such a classic track that it will be a very special event again.”
Evgeny Bobryshev—Team Russia: “It’s an honour to have been selected again for Team Russia for the Nations. I really like competing in this event because it’s so different to what we’re used to and always special with the fans and the support which makes the atmosphere so enjoyable. I’m looking forward to getting on board the 2017 CRF again too – from Charlotte and Glen Helen we learned so much about the bike and this is helping us get the best out of it race-by-race, and get a jumpstart on next season.”
Roger Harvey—HRC General Manager: “Once again both Gautier and Bobby have been selected for the Nations, as has Tim too, so we have all three works 450 riders in action for their countries this weekend. Gautier won with Team France last year at home in France, and also in 2014, so they’re the team all the others are targeting, but there are also some very strong other teams out there. That’s the thing about the Nations – any one rider can be very strong but that’s not enough – it’s about the collective strength of the team over the course of all three races on Sunday.”
TEAM SUZUKI WINS GERMAN & BELGIAN MX TITLES
Suzuki press release: Suzuki World MX2 rider Bas Vaessen won the German ADAC MX Youngster Cup Championship and Suzuki World MXGP’s Kevin Strijbos the Belgian Motocross Championship at the weekend. With heavy rain and difficult track conditions at Holzgerlingen, Germany, Vaessen had a small lead over Miro Sihoven coming into the final event. The Dutch teenager had to dig deep to secure his first ADAC Championship title. Said Vaessen: “I actually messed-up a little in the first race. My start was not so good and I was not really finding my rhythm, took a little break and then Sihoven was in front of me.” Ten minutes into the race, the organisers decided to put-out the red flag because of the very bad weather conditions, which meant the title went down to the final race.
