HOW MANY RACES BEHIND DUNGEY IS THE 450 PACK?
Marvin Musquin (25) has been doing great over the last three races, but he isn’t going to win the title this year. He looks like a contender in 2017.
Nobody is racing on the same race as Ryan Dungey—which means he can DNF a race and still maintain his Supercross points lead. The AMA pays 25 points to the winner of every race, and once a rider gets more than 25 points ahead of his competition, he has a one-race safety net, 50 points is a two-race safety net, 75 points is a three-race safety net and so on.
The closest: Ken Roczen (94) is 34 points back. which means that Ryan Dungey could DNF one race (25 points), and still lead by 9 points.
Second closest: Jason Anderson (21) is 58-points behind, which means that Ryan Dungey could DNF two races, and still lead by 8 points.
Eli Tomac is 63 points adrift, which means that Ryan Dungey could DNF two races and still lead by 13 points.
Cole Seely is 70 points back, which means that Ryan Dungey could DNF two races, and still lead by 20 points.
Marvin Musquin is 77 points back, which means that Ryan Dungey could DNF three races, and still lead by 2 points.
Chad Reed is 91 points behind, which means that Ryan Dungey could DNF three races, and still lead by 16 points.
Justin Brayton is 125 points behind, which is exactly 5 races behind Dungey in points (with 7 races to go).
Everyone else is 5 or more races behind Ryan Dungey in the points chase.
Eliminated: Any rider who has fallen 175 or more points behind Ryan Dungey is already eliminated from even the remotest mathematical chance of winning the 450 title. These riders, through injury or other issues, are out of the running: Wil Hahn, Vince Friese, Justin Bogle, Blake Baggett, Phil Nicoletti, Broc Tickle, Justin Barcia, Andrew Short and James Stewart
THE WAY WE WERE: THIS WEEK’S MOTO-CHALLENGE
Can you name this MXA test rider? He was on the cover of MXA many times, but in March of 1990 he got to wear the Indian headress helmet. Hard to believe that this was 26 years ago. Do you know him? The answer is on the bottom of the page.

MOTO-MAN’S PETE VETRANO DOWN
Pete Vetrano (37) in front of Terry Varner (34)
Motorcycle parts distributor and former TM, LEM, Vertematti and VOR importer Pete Vetrano was the innocent victim of a runaway bike at the bottom of Glen Helen’s Mt. Saint Helen downhill at the HYR 6-Hours of Glen Helen cross-country race on Sunday, March 13. Vetrano suffered a broke collarbone, shoulder blade, ribs and a concussion. He was scheduled to get on a plane the next morning to fly to Italy to meet with his suppliers—instead, he’s at home whincing in pain. Get well, soon.
USED IT, ABUSED IT, TESTED IT: DICK’S RACING INTELAJET KTM CARB MOD
Dick’s Racing progressively bores out the stock KTM 250SX two-stroke carb from 36mm to 39mm and installs the creative Intelajet system to build an effective KTM 250/300 two-stroke carb. It fits on all KTM two-stroke carbs from 2004 to 2015 and Husky TC250s from 2014-2015.
Intelajet’s upstream emulsion tube kicks in a mist of fuel at high rpm.
VERDICT: Dick Wilk of Dick’s Racing taper-bores the stock KTM carb so that it flows from 36mm to 39mm; he can also taper-bore the ends for even more power. Tapering the carb’s bore makes the Keihin PWK work like a 36mm carb below one-third throttle but a big carb above that. The Intelajet is the two-stroke equivalent of the dual fuel-injection nozzles on the Kawasaki KX250F. The Keihin carb functions normally below two-thirds throttle, but as air velocity increases, excess fuel is sprayed out of the Intelajet’s emulsion tube upstream from the main jet. It has the feel of a supercharger. The Intelajet doesn’t dump raw fuel into the carb as much as it sprays a fine mist into the air stream to enhance fuel burn at high rpm. The amount of fuel coming through the emulsion tube is controlled by an air-bleed dial, which is accessible to the rider. The performance was a awesome! Incredible! Worth the money! Amazing! Fantastic! Unbelievable! Pick the adjective that you like best. The gain in top-end power and overrev was immediately noticeable to every MXA test rider. It has no effect on power below two-thirds throttle, but once the mist kicks in, the KTM 250SX feels like it has a jet pack attached to it. We love it.
This dial controls air flow to the emulsion tube.
DIGITS: $425.00 (carb bored progressively from 36mm to 39mm with Intelajet installed); $250.00 (taper bored only), $30.00 (Intelajet mounting kit); $40.00 (taper-bore carb ends) — www.dicksracing.com or (916) 705-3193.

Martin Davalos (49) could have gone to Canada with no problem, but getting back into the United States would have been an issue. He elected not to cross the border and gave up 25 points to the winner.

WHERE WAS VICKY GOLDEN AT TORONTO?
Vicki Golden.
Last week in Toronto, Vicki Golden made the top 40 in timed qualifying (and even though there were only 42 riders vying for the 40 spots, she was not the last rider in). Golden finished 37th out of 42 to make her first night show in 2016. Her qualifying time was 1:06.754. The fastest qualifier was Justin Hill with a 55.18 lap time. In her heat race she finished 19th, but largely because she was pushed out in the first turn and started dead last. In the LCQ, she finished 17th. But, every fight starts with a first punch, and now that she has made the night show, she can set new goals.
WANT TO FLAG AT THE GLEN HELEN NATIONAL ON MAY 28?
REM promoter Frank Thomason has been in charge of the Glen Helen AMA 250/450 National flaggers for as long as anyone can remember. As a rule, Frank chooses his flaggers from the ranks of motocross racers, starting with his own REM Glen Helen riders, but there are always spots open to anyone who would like to be more than a spectator. It is an incredibly important job and the safety of the riders lays in the balance. Oh yeah, it’s also a thankless task—except for those who have been saved by a man with a flag. If you’d like to sign up email Frank at ghrnationalflag@verizon.net

HOW TO SUBSCRIBE TO MXA AND MAKE MONEY
You probably haven’t seen the April 2016 issue of MXA yet, but if you subscribed it would be in the trusty hands of a uniformed agent of the U.S. Government on its way to your mailbox right now. Or, you can wait for the product reviews, KTM 450SXF Factory Edition test and tech features to appear on the internet…in a couple months. Your choice.
Do you subscribe to MXA? You should. We know that you think that print magazines are dead and that the internet will fill the void, but most of the stuff in the current issue of MXA won’t appear on the web for several months, if at all. Luckily, you can get all of MXA on your iPhone, iPad, Kindle or Android by going to the Apple Store, Amazon or Google Play. Better yet get the Digital desktop version at https://hi-torque.com/product/motocross-action-digital-edition/ for $9.99 a year. The MXA test riders prefer the print version and not just because it is delivered by a uniformed employee of the U.S. Government, but because for only $15.99 you get 12 issues and a free $25 Gift Card from Rocky Mountain ATV/MC. That means that there is a profit to be made in this deal for you. For the Print magazine go to: http://hi-torque.com/product/subscribe-to-motocross-action-magazine/
