STEVE McQUEEN’S CYCLONE BOARD TRACKER SELLS FOR $775,000
Steve McQueen’s Cyclone.
A 100-year old motorcycle once owned by the late Steve McQueen sold for $775,000 at auction. The motorcycle, a Cyclone Board Track Racer, was made by the Joerns Motor Manufacturing Co. between 1913 and 1916. The bevel-driven, 996cc, V-twin was capable of 111 mph. McQueen’s Cyclone is one of six in existence. The last time one went up for sale it brought $551,200 (seven years ago). The McQueen name is magic at auctions as 8 of the top 100 motorcycles ever sold belonged to him. The most expensive motorcycle ever sold at auction was the $1.35 million paid last October for the chopper used in the film “Easy Rider.”
GODSPEED TYLER HOEFT (2000-2015)
A farewell from the Fasthouse crew to young Tyler Hoeft, who tragically passed away at Freestone last weekend.
ARE YOU READY FOR THE 2016 HONDA 400 FOUR-STROKE?
The Honda Bulldog.
Honda has a long history of building offbeat bikes. Even today you have the Grom and Ruckus as example of out-of-the-box thinking, but the Bulldog is outside of the room where they keep the box. It is a 400cc, twin-cylinder, four-stroke that rides on 15-inch wheels and has a 28-inch seat height. If you want to take some extra stuff with you, no problem. The gas tank doubles as a storage compartment — plus there are racks that bolt to the frame. Honda calls it a “Lovable Touring Partner.” It was offered up at a Japanese motorcycle show as a concept, but looks ready for production.
KEVIN STRIJBOS OUT OF ARGENTINE GRAND PRIX
Kevin Strijbos.
Earlier this week Kevin Strijbos had surgery on his wrist to relieve the pain of tendonitis. Strijbos will miss the Argentina round of the 450 World Championship this weekend. The 29-year-old has been complaining of pain in the joint after suffering tendonitis and having a similar procedure done before the start of the 2015 season. Strijbos has been competing with pain-killing injections, but went for an MRI scan on Monday, followed by more examinations on Tuesday, where he was advised to have further corrective surgery. The operation will mean a three-week period of convalescence and the Belgian has a tentative aim to be back in action at the Italian GP in Trentino, Italy, on April 19. Strijbos said, “I think this way I might be able to come back and get some track time in Italy and then start to build up for Holland and be back to normal. I never want to skip races, but I know I will be able to get something like 13 good GPs done and still be able to push.” Strijbos is current 7th in 450 GP points and 33 points behind Championship leader and Suzuki teammate Clement Desalle.
On a side note, Jordi Tixier, who was suspended for one month for an altercations with FIM officials in Thailand, will be replaced on the KRT Kawasaki team for this 250 GP round by David Herbreteau. The young French rider was fourth in the European 125 two-stroke last year.
“THE ART OF MOTO” COMING TO RANCHO CUCAMONGA AND GRANADA HILLS
“The Art of Moto” film has partnered with Tugg, a niche web-based platform that helps bring independent films to local theaters and communities, to do two screenings of the motocross movie on Thursday, April 2, the AMC Theatre at Victoria Gardens in Rancho Cucamonga, California, at 7:30 p.m. and on Tuesday, April 7, at 7:30 pm at the Regency Granada Hills 9 in Granada Hills. Additional screenings will be announced soon. All tickets must be reserved through Tugg. There is a catch, but it is for producer/director Mark Homan to worry about. For the screenings to happen, a minimum amount of tickets must be sold before a given deadline at each theatre.
“We are very excited to be working with Tugg to present “The Art of Moto” on the big screen in local communities,” said director and producer Mark Homan. “A theatrical screening really is the way to appreciate the dynamic cinematography and 5.1 surround sound of this spectacle of motocross. Tugg makes it easy to host, sponsor, or just attend an event. It’s a fun way to get your moto community together to celebrate the world’s toughest sport and connect with new and old friends at the same time. Through this model, other films, such as “On Any Sunday: The Next Chapter” and “Why We Ride” have been able to present their films in front of sold-out audiences on the big screen.”
To buy tickets to “The Art of Moto” showing listed above go to www.tugg.com/titles/art-of-moto or if you like “The Art of Moto” to show in your town fill out the Tugg Event request form at www.tugg.com/event_requests/new?movie=art-of-moto and choose a theater, date and time. If enough people are interested in your town, it won’t be long until you can sit back and enjoy the show.
