The roots of the relationship shared by Cole Seely and Troy Lee Designs run deep. It was with TLD’s in-house team that Seely rose to prominence in the pro ranks, and although the process took a few years, it’s paid off with numerous wins and even an exclusive contract that carried Seely to Team Honda HRC. The two groups share very similar styles, full of California influences and bright colors.

To learn more about the setup, we grabbed a few minutes with Mikey Ojeda, TLD’s resident gear guru and Seely’s close friends. One interesting thing that Ojeda mentioned is that all of the apparel worn at each race is planned out months in advance. “Months before the season starts, we all have a meeting and schedule the year out,” Ojeda shared. “We share our opinions and throw in some ideas, that way we aren’t starting from scratch. Depending on the stadium, we’ll try to do some of the same colors as the football teams to have fun.”

GoPro Hero 4 Black

Mounted at the top of the helmet, Seely is one of the few riders to wear the popular POV camera. Seely prefers the lightlight Frame mount and simple lens cover over the standard waterproof protective shell.

SIZE: Medium

Seely was influential in the development of the all-new SE4 and his feedback played a part in the final product. Before the helmet was “officially” launched, the TLD paint department camouflaged the unique shell design with patterns from the previous catalog. The SE4 will be released to the public later this month.

SPY Omen Goggle

Seely runs the standard goggle setup for Supercross: Clear lens and stack of laminated tearoffs. The Omen goggle features an optional nose guard, which Seely keeps on each set.

Asterisk AC System

This is another product that Seely was a part of from the very early stages. The elaborate system is small steel discs inside stickers that are applied to the nose and a clip with magnets affixed to the bridge of the goggles, which dilates the nasal passage and allows for increased oxygen flow.

Troy Lee Designs SE & GP Jersey
SIZE: Large

All of the jerseys feature digitally printed logos, name, and numbers. This is because of the size of the Honda wing on the front of the jersey, which would cover the TLD logo on a standard jersey. The digital printing allows the designers to place all of the logos as they see fit, without interfering with another. It’s also far lighter and more breathable than traditional iron-on material.

Troy Lee Designs 5900 Chest Protector
SIZE: Large

After Seely suffered an assortment of internal injuries from a practice crash at the Salt Lake City SX in 2012, Troy Lee mandated that his riders wear a chest protector element. All of the TLD protective pieces are made in conjunction with Shock Doctor, a leader in sporting equipment.

Troy Lee Designs Air Glove
SIZE: Custom

To perfectly fit Seely’s large hands TLD custom makes each pair of Air mitts, and attaches size large fingers to a size medium palm.

Troy Lee Designs SE & GP Pant
SIZE: 30

Although there are few differences in fit between the two offerings in the TLD catalog (SE is cut a bit looser than GP), Seely runs size 30 in both. The pants receive no further tailoring or modification.

Troy Lee Designs Catalyst Knee Brace
SIZE: Medium

Worn beneath the pants, both of Seely’s knees are wrapped in the top of the line TLD units.

Stance Fusion Moto Sock

SIZE: Large

A major player in casual clothing circles, Stance has developed a series of technical socks specifically for motocross. This is another project that Seely was a part of from the early stages.

Alpinestars Tech 10 Boot
SIZE: 9

Although white boots are the staple from Alpinestars, it’s not uncommon to see special editions or colors to fit a certain theme. At this year’s Anaheim Two SX, for example, Ojeda painted one set bright pink in support of breast cancer awareness.
