Blake Green has been a very strong amateur competitor through the years, and has now become a strong racer in the 250B class.  With several championships and good results in the amateur nationals in his years of racing, Green has moved his way to the 250B class and after a couple years of having some injuries, he is back strong and looking to regain his momentum and be a serious contender at the nationals.  He has come out to the Winter Cup rounds to prepare for the upcoming season, so we caught up with him to see what his plans for the year are.

What brings you out to the Muscle Milk/TWMX Winter Cup?

We’ve been doing the Transworld Series to get ready for the Texas rounds of the nationals.  It doesn’t matter how hard you practice during the week, you can’t beat being in an actual race.  Just trying to do as many races as I can and trying to race every weekend.  Transworld puts on an amazing series, it’s $35 for one class and $10 for an additional class, so you can’t beat it.  It is just a win-win situation for us.

How did you originally get started racing?

I started riding when my dad put me on a PW50 when I was two years old, and ever since then I’ve been riding.  At 3 I started racing locally and when I was 4 I did my first national in Texas.  Ever since then it’s just been in my blood.  I’m just thankful that my dad brought me into this sport.

What is it about motocross that drives you and keeps you in racing?

I think a lot of motocross riders have anger problems, and they take out their anger on their dirtbikes.  At least that’s what I do.  For me, I don’t really like to jump, but the funnest feeling is to go around a corner and get the handlebar dragging and get that perfect photo and it just looks so cool.  But of course everyone always likes a whip.

What is your biggest or favorite accomplishment in your years of racing?

I’ve been racing for a long time, I’m only 16 but it feels like I am old.  But my best accomplishment when I look back is having three Loretta Lynn’s championships.  That’s a big accomplishment, I could care less about all the nationals but when you go into Loretta’s and the three moto format, it’s just awesome to take home that trophy.  At the end you can see if California or whatever state you’re in wins.  Fortunately I’ve had three state championships with California and three Loretta Lynn championships.

Do you have a plan in place on when you will turn pro?
I’ve had a lot of injuries in the last couple years, but the goal right now is to take it race by race.  The plan is to race one year in the B class then next year race the A class and see from there.  I’m definitely going to wait and see if I am ready, and if not, there’s no need to rush it.

What other things do you do besides motocross?
When I’m not riding, I do a lot of the other sports, but my favorite hobby is driving my RC car.  I have a full track in my back yard and I go out with my uncles and race.  I have a couple RC car sponsors that hook me up.  RC cars is sort of similar to motocross, and tuning the cars I can relate that to tuning a dirtbike, so it helps me with suspension and chassis setup.

What do you do for training?
I live by Blake Bagget, so I train with him and he’s been a big help for me.  He’s like an older brother and he pushes me and drives me to work hard.  He is nice, he is down to earth and will do anything for me, but when it comes to training he is tough on me in the gym and on the track because he just wants me to be the number one guy, so we mountain bike and do all the stuff in the gym.
