Marsh: Hi. It’s Marsh Engle and I’m so inspired to be here with you on motivating other moms. Visit me at marshengle.com for a free gift today.

Woman: Mompreneurs, if you’re pulling double duty with kids and a business, you know how hard it is and it can be easy to feel so alone. But I’ve got great news. You’re not alone and you can do this. Welcome to motivating other moms. The show that pulls back the curtain to show vulnerable moments, lessons learned and solid business tips for mompreneurs. Now, here’s your host, successful mompreneur, Rosemary Nickel.

Rosemary: Welcome Marsh. I’m so happy to be here. I have followed you for years. You’re way over on the other coast in California. I’m in Florida. I didn’t — I’ve always wanted to meet you but I had never been to California up until this year. This is my first year of ever going to California and it reminds me an awful lot of Florida but with a lot of big mountains and hills but they have palm trees and nice weather.

Marsh: Yes. So happy to be here with you Rosemary. Thank you.

R: I’m truly excited. You have done so much for leadership, spirituality, for women and you’ve been at this for a very long time. You started a marketing agency when you were a single mom with two sons. How old were your sons?

M: Oh, gosh. My sons. You know what happened? I got divorced when my sons were nine months old and two and a half years old.

R: Wow.

M: Yeah. Very young, very young. Little, tiny guys. And that put me in a position to need to find a career. I was a stay at home mom at the time and I just went about the business of developing a career because I knew that I was in a position that — needing to provide for my sons. So it was quite an experience when you’re put in that opportunity but I — what I did was I ended up going into media, into radio, into television and then I left and opened my own marketing agency. So when I opened my marketing agency my sons were about — maybe about seven and nine I would say by the time I did that. I was in media for about eight years before I opened my own agency.

R: What made you go towards media?

M: I’m going to tell you the truth Rosemary. It sounds crazy but I knew that I needed to get into a career that would provide me the opportunity to make a good income and I’m just going to tell you the truth. At the time I just thought what is it that I can do that I can work with people and — I didn’t even — I don’t even think honestly, if I have to be absolutely vulnerable with you and tell you the truth I think it was really about how can I develop a career where there’ll be a great opportunity for advancement. Now at the time I did not think anything about — very few women were advanced into leadership in media. I did not think about that. it didn’t even occur to me when I first stepped into the realm of media but ended up that it was a grand opportunity for me to excel and as I’ve been speaking more and more about my background in media I thought about what really drew me to it and what really was the opportunity to express my creativity and that was in working with entrepreneurs who had small businesses and I could help them use the power of media to grow their businesses. So I think I was an entrepreneurial coach back in those days as well. It just happened to be through the form of media.

R: Well, what did you do before you had kids?

M: Before I had kids I was in HR. I was in — I’m trying to think. Medco was the name of the company. You’re taking me way, way back Rosemary. I haven’t spoken about this to anybody for years now but I worked for Medco and I was a human resource secretary to begin with and then I became an assistant to the human resource director. And Medco was a chain of healthcare organizations and I worked there interviewing and helping to place people in jobs that they love. Makes total sense now doesn’t It because it’s exactly —

R: Yeah. It all clicks. Yes.

M: Yeah. You’re helping me remember this Rosemary. It’s been a lot of years back. Isn’t it interesting how when we — I think we stay very present with what our experiences are now. whatever we’re going through, whatever life experiences we’re having, whatever career we’re picking, whatever business or a mission that we’re on and we sometimes forget about those early, early days that were actually laying the foundational work for us to out doing the sacred work and sharing our sacred message with the world and we were being prepared all along and you’re helping me remember that because back a long time ago that was my very first real job I would call it right out of school and I loved it because I could help people connect with a dream career that they were looking for and most of them were some type of transformational healthcare providers and we were able to connect them with a career that would give them the opportunity to share their lives with people. So yeah. You’re helping me to remember that through this question.

R: It is always interesting to kind of look back and see this like — you would’ve never thought then how that would’ve helped you be the woman that you are today.

M: Yeah. It’s a really good point. It’s that I believe and I teach this, I coach it, I speak about this from stages but every single moment — every single moment we’re actually being just receiving a wealth of preparation to where we’re heading next and many times we take those things for granted with those pivotal moments in our lives so those big life shifts we go through, those — just the laying of the foundation. I don’t think anything goes to waste is what I’m saying Rosemary. It’s that every experience, every opportunity gives us this chance to expand and know more about our life and know more about the value that we bring to life and know more about how we can contribute to others. And many times we overlook that because it seems so natural or ordinary and I don’t think any of it is ordinary. I think all of it is extraordinary.

R: And even in those moments of when we’re not clear and we know we’re — might be uncomfortable because there’s big shifts coming and we don’t know why it’s happening. You recently — I don’t know if it was this year or towards the end of last year, you went to Maui and stayed there for a couple of months to get clarity because you weren’t sure. But being able to live in that moment and till the clarity comes is kind of hard.

M: Yeah. It was a bold move Rosemary. I really — I’m very connected with spirit and I tuned in and heard very loud and clear move to Maui. And I thought what a wild idea that would be. Of course my sons now are adult men and I’m single so I have that freedom to be able to pack up and go when you get a message like that and I kept it very still within me though. I really contemplated what that would mean to leave Los Angeles and move to Maui sounded like a statement of permanence. It sounded like pack up and move and live in Maui. So that’s exactly the intention I had but I also had the intention that I would stay until I felt ready to return. So that I know that – my sons both live in Los Angeles. I have a very close relationship with my sons and would like to be nearby as they grow their family and so I thought for me to live in Maui and move out of Los Angeles and — then you get into the practical. What will that do for my business, how will my clients interpret this? How is that going to shake my world upside down? I always see this picture of a snow globe and I was kind of picking it up and shaking it around and seeing what new picture wanted to surface but do you know what I did? I took it as an opportunity to size down my belongings. I gave a lot of things away. Yeah. I gave a lot of things away, I sold a few things, I gifted my friends with some things, I put the rest of it in storage and I got it down to very small storage space and put my car in storage, bought a one way ticket with the intention that I was going to sit on a beach in Maui until I could hear — if I could hear my direction as clearly as I was able to coach my clients because I was very clear with my clients. But that’s different. When you’re working with other people there’s no attachment, right?

R: Oh, yeah.

M: There’s no attachment to the way you think things should be, there’s no attachment to the way — what you’re letting go of, there’s no attachment of — and fear of the interpretation that others will have. There’s just no fear when you’re working with a client. You can boldly see their focus of direction and their best next action steps but for myself, I really knew that to be the best leader that I could be I needed to get clarity on what was the best direction for me and I knew big shift was happening  so I bought this one way ticket. I brought my sons together for a dinner and I said listen. I’m going to go to Maui. I don’t know how long I’m going to stay but I’m getting the insight that I need to go and give myself this downtime to go inward and really hear what my next action steps in my life are and Rosemary you and I’ve known each other for a lot of years so you know how much I love to surf. But I’d lost — I’m going to just tell you the truth. I had lost my enthusiasm. I’d lost my inspiration at the level that I knew that it could be at. I just disconnected from the real why that I was doing and I say that. I’m going to tell you that honestly because I think it’s important that we all know that occasionally we’re going to bump up against that time or space where it feels like well, now what. I don’t know that I’m as enthused about my work as I was at one time or I’ve kind of lost my inspiration here or it’s been misplaced for a second and I feel a little bit disconnected from the why of what I’m doing and I tell us that because I believe that is a very big gateway for us. It’s a doorways to say well, that’s because there’s something grand coming in for you. There’s a new vision, a new idea, a new level of inspiration, a new — a deeper connection with your spiritual purpose. I believe that when we feel that disconnect it’s actually a call to action. It’s a call to action that for me said go and be in stillness until you can connect with what really is that next calling for you, that next level of expression, that next mission and how can you let life show you that and how can you connect with it more deeply and take it out into the world and share it in a bigger way and — so that’s exactly — yeah. So when I went to Maui it was twofold. One was to give myself a break and a sabbatical. And the other was a deep knowing that there was something more that wanted to be expressed through me and I needed to listen, to hear what that was.

R: Can I ask you to be maybe a little more vulnerable and what the process was along the way? what was going through your mind up until — to get you to that point to where you were ready to leave because I know a lot of times there’s a lot of things going through our heads and it maybe that I’m done, I don’t have anything more to offer, I’m not good enough and all of that. What was the — what was going through your head, what was your experience and emotional state?

M: Yeah. You really nailed it. You really said it. It was that I thought I love the work that I’ve done. I love the work with amazing women’s day that ran for 10 years. I love that. I love the coaching work that I’ve done with entrepreneurs and my clients who were transformational leaders. I love all of that but maybe I’ve done that and maybe that’s complete for me now and if that is the truth, what else is there for me to do? What is there? And I don’t seem — want to sound morbid but it was like maybe I’ve done that and it’s — I’m complete now with it and it’s just a time for me to be still and I also felt as though — honestly I just needed a break. Haven’t we all felt that and I think that the key would be to get to the place. I speak about it all the time but practicing it yet is another thing. It’s a — I mean, truly. Right?

R: Yes.

M: But get to the place where we are — and I’m loving that we’re talking about this. This is exactly what I need to hear from myself today. But it gets to the place where we are in — and I’m going to use the word balance. But get to the place where we’re giving our self as much attention and as much love and as much focus as we are other people and we as women especially and especially moms — you know this is the truth. We are nurturing, spirited souls and we love to take care, we love to nurture and we love to be of service but if we’re not giving our self the same level of attention and giving our self that break and giving our self some space to be in our silence even if it means having to get up extra early in the morning just to be in that stillness or giving our self time for a 15 minute walk in nature in the evening. Whatever it is. Taking a bubble bath or whatever. I mean, these sound so simple but those make such a difference if we’re doing it along the way and for me, I had gotten into that fast forward movement of creating constantly and hadn’t given myself honestly enough downtime to really nurture myself so that — I think that would be what created that disconnect and really needing to hear more deeply what my next action steps were. I did feel levels of fear and I went back and forth rosemary. You could imagine if you’re in my head. You could image am I doing the right thing, am I not doing the right thing, what are people going to say and then one day it clicked over and I always could feel it. It’s just my feet got anchored. I knew that I was making the right choice. I knew that those that were intended to be in my life would completely understand what I was doing, that I was not abandoning my practice, I wasn’t abandoning my clients. I kept working while I was in Maui it was just that I was working in a different city and a different location and people hear Maui and they think you’re only vacationing, right?

R: Yeah.

M: As a matter of fact, I leave for Maui July 9th for three months again. I mean, now I’ve made an —

R: Sweet.

M: An annual sabbatical where I go and I have a place there and I have a place in Los Angeles and I’m so grateful that I’m able to do that and give myself that balance but my message to moms is we don’t have to get to the place where it’s like all or nothing. We really can have that Maui energy, that aloha energy with us all the time. We just have to learn the way to give it to ourselves every single day, to give ourselves that space every single day. And this is so important. This must be our spiritual practice. It has to happen every single day for us because for us to give and nurture and love and share and be all that we’re here to be, we have to give our self that same level of love and attention.

R: Oh, I couldn’t agree more. I remember once talking to some healers and spiritual women and we were sitting there talking about self care and how important it is and I’m like it’s just I needed a ridiculous amount of self care in order for me to be in like the perfect flow all the time. And one of them looked at me and she said there’s no such thing as ridiculous. It’s just whatever it is that you need. I’m like oh, okay. Because I felt — I’m like it’s like obscene amount of time I need down by myself. It’s just like no, no, no, no, no, no. you need to look at this differently. We don’t — we think as moms a lot of times 10 minutes is asking a lot.

M: Exactly. It’s — I can hear it exactly but here’s the payoff. That when we give our self that stillness or when we can find that opportunity to really be in love with our self as much as possible hopefully we can learn to do this throughout the day all the time. And by doing this it opens up a flow of creativity and new answers come to us, new solutions. It’s really the gateway and the doorway to our spiritual connection is through that stillness and through that self love. So what I learned in Maui — if you would ask me what did I come back with is I realized that I could only — you were talking about a ridiculous amount. It’s like I could only work three or four days a week and I had to have the rest of the time in my own hobbies, my own quietness, my spiritual practices, my spiritual community. I had to do this in order for me to be even better at the work that I was doing and Rosemary what happened was I got so clear when I was working with my clients and when I was in service I was so clear in what my communication was. I could feel it. it was a different vibration, it was a different delivery, it was a different March moving through, it was a different space of letting more of myself be seen and letting more of my connection with spirit be heard and that’s the payoff to our stillness. We often think it’s selfish or to be in self care or self love is — why aren’t we investing that time better and I am here to tell you that is the optimum investment of time that you can make in order to be filled with love even more for our children and for our families, for our communities and for the sacred work that we’re here to share. I’m just a big believer in this and you can hear me. I’m very enthused about this conversation because I know that I need to hear it and we all need to hear it.

R: It’s about giving ourselves permission and there’s no reason why we can’t have more. It’s really interesting how we limit ourselves in so many aspects of our life and I have learned when I do take that what I call — what I was calling — no longer calling. Obscene amount of self care there is a clarity that’s there. Instead of this — it felt like — sometimes it feels like a runaway train where you’re just going, chugging, chugging, chugging and you’re going at fast speed and you’re creating content and you’re working with your clients and you’re dealing with life and when you’re not stopping to get your feet grounded and spiritually connected with yourself and your purpose — wow. You’re missing a lot.

M: Yeah. It’s — life is moving through us. Now I love the side of me, the part of me that loves to nurture and I love that part of me that is in service and I think the skill set we have to nurture within our self is that ability to find that willingness to give to both our self and to others at the same time. And we have to learn this and it’s new for us because if we think back of the models that have been around us maybe we did not have models that showed us this before. In some of the — actually some of the early women’s movements that many of us grew up in it was really about carving our place in the world and making our self seen and making sure that we could break through those glass ceilings. And I believe we’re at a different time now Rosemary. We’re at a time where our spiritual expression, our spiritual connection has to be at the upmost importance in our life and the only way we can have that is to allow our self that time and I know I’m talking probably just to moms right now that are thinking. Yeah. But I have little children. Be still no matter what. We have to find a way to have that spiritual connection no matter what. No matter what our life looks like or how full it is at any given time.

R: One of the things that you said that I found interesting is you were worried about going to Maui and disrupting your business but you still were planning on working. You weren’t going to stop your work. But really going to Maui is an inspiration to your clients in reality because that is something — not necessarily Maui. That many people aspire to be able to do is to travel and they’re trying to create their business and grow their business and grow who they are to have that ability to be able to do exactly what you did. So it’s interesting how our mind plays tricks on us to try and keep us from our greatness.

M: It’s a great point because at first when I went to Maui I triggered a lot of people. I triggered their desire to do that and they reacted or responded in a way but it didn’t take long Rosemary till it became where they were inspired to do the same. I had a client come over and move to Maui while I was there. And I helped her find a place because I was already there and kind of knew the lay of the land. I’ve had other transformational teachers and leaders now come to me and say what were your action stops in order to do what you did. And I’ve had many, several of them that have already taken off and done exactly what I did so I think that — I love trail blazers and I love pathfinders and path show. I love all of this and I think that when I look back now I did not do it to be a trail blazer. That’s for certain. But I think it ended up being an inspiration that said if I can follow my heart in this way so can you. And it may take a little bit of effort because it wasn’t — it took me about four months. I think I wrote a blog post that it was like the decision that took me three months and 28 days and four hours to make. It was a big decision to make and it was a big effort because I had a large space that I lived in and I had to really downsize and it really required a lot of organization but I did it and we can do it. All of us can do it. And then I learned along the way some of the things that I would not have done maybe the way I did. And then some things that I did that were really smart, that could help others be able to streamline a decision to do exactly what I had decided to do.

R: Are you going to do — now you came back with a probably a nice tan with all that beach laying around that you did and an idea for — I’m assuming a new show.

M: I did. I came back and I was so fired up. I came back — sitting on the beaches of Maui was more of an inner contemplation about — I always — I tell this story. It took me about four or five days of mind chatter which was intense mind chatter in Maui because in Maui it magnifies everything, right. So that means it magnifies your clarity, yes. But first I had to walk though all of the mind chatter that said why I shouldn’t be doing what I was doing, why it was never going to work, why I was never going to meet anybody there, why it was going to be this, that and whatever and about the fourth — four and a half days into it I had this clarity clicked in. it was almost like when you’re walking through the forest and all at once you get to a clearing, that’s exactly what it felt like for me. And when I got to the clearing I sat with this beautiful experience of new creativity, new ideas, new ways that I could contribute, new ways that I could bring forth the message that would really inspire me and I started to really dream on this, really imagine what that would be and the first thing I heard was a call to lead which — I know spirit was talking to me that you were called to lead but I also knew that spirit was talking to me as a woman inspiring other women. Like you Rosemary and everyone that’s listening. How can we lead, how can we lead our lives, how can we lead our creative expression, how can we lead innovative shifts in the world and really make a difference by being more of who we already are. How can we look at our life experiences from a place and eyes of honor and know that we’ve been prepared every single moment to be the women that we are so that we can really lead a dynamic shift that’s happening in the culture of our success in the world. So I got all of this clarity and I became very inspired by this conversation that was happening within me and I came back and created the one million called which is really a movement to inspire women to show up fully in their signature brand, their signature ideas, their desire to create the businesses that they long to lead and make a massive difference so encouraging women through the projects that they’re bringing forth to impact and inspire millions and I know that we have the power to do that just like what you’re doing Rosemary and each and every one of us. If it’s our immediate families that we’re inspiring, if it’s our communities, if it’s through our work, if it’s just simply through our way of being in the world, we have the power to influence and impact in a very positive way. the other thing that I got and actually I received the call from Jeff Spenard who is president and CEO of Voice America who while I was in Maui said to me Marsh I believe it’s time for a women’s network and we’d love for you to head up the launch of that. And of course it ended up being called Voice America Women and through that I have my show Marsh Engle Radio which just launched right just last Monday and it’s on the network. We’re launching a platform which I believe to be the premier platform for broadcast of women’s voices. It’s time for us to uplift our voices in a bigger and more empowered way and do it — most importantly this is really what we need to hear Rosemary is do it in a collaborative way. do it where we’ve locked on so that the way we lift each other up becomes much easier and we see this now through the communities that are happening and through all of the connections that are happening, through the support that’s happening; we see this type of collaboration but that’s what I came back from Maui with is a big vision of really stepping into a bigger voice of inspiration and even more love for the people that I serve. Primarily women who are discovering their passions, discovering their purpose and answering their call to lead.

R: I love that because really traditionally women — so well — in corporate at least women have not been supportive of each other and there is this new switch that is definitely raising up within our society of spirituality and seeing that we are stronger together and being more vulnerable about what is happening in our lives so that we can help each other as opposed to staying stuck by ourselves.

M: Exactly. And the more we can learn to trust others, the more we’re trusting our self. So it’s really an exercise in vulnerability to put our self out there, trust our self that we’re being guided, trust our self that the voice that we share is one of pure inspiration, trust our self that there’s others that are interested in what we have to offer, really get in touch with the true value that we bring forth in the world. I’ve always said that pure collaboration comes when you know your value and I know my value and together we can lock arms and lift each other up and exponentially increase our value but it all begins with me knowing my value of what I bring to life and you knowing your value of what you bring to life and then we can begin to — from that place of leadership, pure leadership based in pure value of understanding who we are and what we have to share. Then we can walk into a room and collaborate with thousands of people because we know who we are and we know the value that we bring forth in the world.

R: Leadership can be intimidating to a lot of people. They might be afraid to be a leader, the thought of it but yet they feel drawn to it. What’s been some of the struggles of you becoming a leader in your industry? What did that look like to you at the beginning and what did you think — what were some of the thoughts that you thought that kind of kept your from being a leader that you were meant to be?

M: Gosh, that’s a good question. Let me think. Well, I think we’re redefining — there’s two things happening. We’re redefining leadership right now. One is leadership is you know a thing — what you’d like to create in your life and what you’d like to see in your world and being accountable. I’m going to use that word. Accountable. And I’m going to use the word responsible to that and that’s being self — a self leader. That’s understanding — and let’s even say that that’s a capital S Self leader. That’s really saying I’m aligned with who I know myself to be. I’m aligned with spirit and I’m aligned with the willingness to be successful at knowing what I’d like my world and my life to look like. That’s a level of leadership and I believe all of us can be that leader. I speak about this a lot because when we — going back to that collaboration conversation. When we come from that place of self leadership we are open to find the success and creativity by coming to community to create rather than being alone and isolated to create because now we’re in an understating of who we are as a self leader. It’s really important for us to step into that. The question you asked me is what did I face when I went into a level of leadership of a community. Huge responsibility comes with leading a community but it starts with that self leadership. It starts with knowing who am I, what are my values, how can I bring those values to inspire others and how can I inspire others to find that same value within themselves so I think true leadership of a community does exactly that or at least where we are today. The leaders of today are really eye to eye with their communities and inspiring through their own actions. Sometimes I’ve felt really clear and complete with that. I think one of the reasons that I packed up and went to Maui is that I wasn’t feeling in alignment, that I needed to come into alignment. I’m taking some action right now Rosemary with my own health and my own self care when it comes to my health in order to be a leader in that way. I’d like to show my community that this is important to me, that the way I work with my body and my own energy has become a very important part. I think that it’s — every moment the leader especially if we’re talking a leader of a community and even self leadership, we have to be in tune with what we’re needing at that time in order to feel in complete alignment and when we are in tune with that and we can let our self take action on that that’ when we can really align with our power to — or we could say our will to succeed and our will to lead and it’s the most important thing but it all starts — I think the whole conversation, talking about self care, self nurturing and really now we’re talking about self leadership. That to me is the new model of leadership that we have to step into. It all begins with me and then the reflection that I bring forth in the world and how I can inspire others to be the fullness of who they are in the way that they’re like to be. That’s the way I lead.

R: So one of the things — we’re talking about leadership and building our community and taking care of ourselves but at some point we have to make money and I was listening to your show that you just launched and you had call ins which I love and that’s one of my goals is to move to that is — she was talking about — she owns — she’s a ballerina. She teaches dance but she has a spiritual component of it to where it’s not really a dance class and she’s very — I think if it was this one — she’s very creative as most artists are and they’re very creative but they don’t see the value, the financial value in what they add. They’re very uncomfortable with asking for money for what they’re worth. What is the biggest struggle with women? I think people in general do but women overall are much more afraid to ask for what they’re worth and don’t even see their value, their true value. Why is that?

M: It’s much easier to see our strengths because our strengths are an outward expression, right. Our strengths are something that we’re doing or that we’ve done and it’s exhibited a strength that we have and it’s much easier to identify a strength than it is a value. A value is that inner connection with what really lights your world up and what you know when you’re in that flow — I mean, for you Rosemary, what would be a value for you that you know when you’re in that place that you’re really connected, that you’ve got it going on, that you just — you don’t have to think of what you’re going to say. You just feel passionate, you feel enthused. What would a value be that brings that up for you?

R: Really, it’s when I’m coaching somebody for them and their business and their selves. I get really passionate about the self care part so getting them to see the value in that.

M: I bet if you took it just a little bit deeper, it’s — just ask yourself when you’re coaching what’s the part about it that you love the most. When you’re coaching what’s the feeling that you love within that.

R: Oh, that A-HA moment when they get it and they see their value and they see that they’re worth it, that everything that they do — there’s more than why they could have imagined. You know that moment where they see themselves?

M: So your value is in — I’ll repeat back what I heard you say is that your value would be holding the space for people to make self discoveries that will make a massive impact and difference in their lives. That’s your value. Coaching has nothing to do with it. It’s you holding the space, it’s your gift possibly of spiritual sight, of — gosh, of seeing a deeper level of the person and really focusing in on that for them so that they can begin to see it for themselves. You’re gifted in that way. Can you see that? Well, that’s a big — it’s a big value for you. That’s a big value for anyone that’s in your presence.

R: Yes.

M: So when you start to talk about your work from that point of you — we’re going to go back to the ballerina in a second but i just was so tuned in to your power and how beautiful you are as a transformational spirited leader and when you start to talk about your work from the place of I hold the space so that you can begin to see your greatest values that you bring forth in the world and how you can live more of that; when you start to speak about that more people are drawn to your work naturally because now the people that are looking for that gift can find you. but if we identify our self as I’m a coach or I’m a this or I’m a that then people can’t necessarily understand exactly what it is. Let’s go back to the dancer, the ballerina that called in. she was a professional ballerina and she was injured and had to give that up, give up that career that she thought was going to be her career for quite a while and she started creating a program that was serving people in care homes that are — I’m trying to find the right way to say this but the elderly. I don’t want to put somebody in a — but do you know what I’m trying to say?

R: Yeah, yeah. The in home care people. Is it like in their homes or at like a actual home where there’s a community.

M: I’ve never seen homes. Yes. Community. And she also was serving young kids, really young kids. And when she was describing, she has great passion for that work that she’s been doing. She loves that work. However, what she’s been denying about herself and this is what came out on that call on the show Monday is that what she’s been denying in her work was her deep spiritual practice and she studied with a lot of spiritual teachers and she has a beautiful spiritual understanding. And she has an understanding that power of movement and dance and being in our body is the most spirited connection we can have. She had been forgetting to tell people that part. So what she’s actually doing I feel is bringing forth a new dance modality that will be a highly spirited embodiment and the exercise I gave her to do, the practice that I gave her to do is to go out and create a brand new title, a new name for this modality, a new way that we can speak about a movement, a body practice and dance that is very embodied in spirit. Now, why I’m telling you all of that is because the moment she begins to speak about that the level of value that she holds and the opportunity that she’s providing is going to soar. She’s going to say because she has such a high value on her spirited connection, right. So when she starts to talk about her work from that more — that place of integrity about what really matters to her, what her true value is. Her true value is being a spiritual teacher happens to show up in the form of dance. Can you see that?

R: Absolutely.

M: Yeah. when she gets that alignment with — or any of us get that alignment with what we really value and we begin to infuse it into our work and we begin to tell people about that not only do we value the opportunity at a higher level but the people that are looking for us can value it at a higher level because now we’re speaking to what they know that they need and that what they need is a value to them because they can see the outcome, they can see the results. It’s never — Rosemary it’s never about the money. It’s about how we align with the opportunity we’re providing people. Are we really infusing that opportunity with a pure value that we hold for our life and our expression? And then are we willing to tell people about that. Many times — now you know this is the case that when we have something of deep value we can be shy about it. It could feel very intimate. It can feel like wow. I hold that value but I can’t let anybody know that. I can’t anybody — great example is when you introduced me as a spiritual — my spiritual aspect of me is what has brought you and me together. We love that part of my work that I do and many of my clients will call and say Marsh, the reason I work with you is because of your spirit. How spiritual you are in your business coaching and how spiritual you are in helping me find my way in creating my success in the world. I was very uncomfortable with that. remember I was an entertainment executive with a big marketing agency so when my spirited side came out which was very — it’s like that is my partner, that is — my spiritual side is my greatest value I feel that I bring forth in the world. I happen to be in the form of a business coach or a career success coach or a women’s leadership coach but it’s — the fact is that I’m a spiritual — I feel I’m a spiritual leader or a spirited leader at the very least, right. And I had to get used to that. I had to get comfortable because it made me very uncomfortable to let my spiritual side out. I’m extremely intuitive and the more clear I become and the more aligned I become the more intuitive I become and the more in flow and the better coach I become quite honestly. So I think that we have to — it’s never — the conversation is never about money. I want us to remember this. It’s always about the opportunity we provide, how aligned am I with being the truest expression I could be with the fullest description and definition of my value that I can find in that moment and how can I begin to communicate that out into the world with such a level of value that people can see the value and the opportunity that I’m bringing forth and more importantly, I can see the value and the opportunity I’m bringing forth. There’s where the doorway to attracting clients in and then at some point when  you start to attract clients in your rates go up because there’s only so many hours in the day or you get creative about putting group programs together or you do live events or you do radio broadcasts. You start to shout it from the rooftops because you’re so — let’s just say you’re so in love with the value that you’re bringing forth in the world that people can see you see the value. There’s where the secret to the money is. The money is not in why am I shy about receiving money. Don’t you imagine?

R: Yeah. I totally see that and it’s so interesting to watch people evolve and see that happening in their business and I see that even in my own business to be honest and I struggle with the spiritual side. This year has been an awakening. I too took some time off a couple of years ago which is how I started my podcast because I had to step away. I was feeling just like you and that’s how — where that came to me but now it’s like at that moment of you know what? It’s not necessarily about business, it’s not necessarily about marketing or social media. I am definitely more intuitive and drawn to the more spiritual side and yet I am very shy to talk about it, very afraid to talk about it because you come from a Christian background. You say spiritual, they think Voodoo and witches and so there’s a lot of stuff that I’m having to deal with and I imagine that because I don’t want to make this just about me that there are other people that feel exactly the same way that are listening so you are definitely moving me and I know you have to be moving my listeners.

M: Thank you Rosemary. As you were speaking — I put this quote up on social media a lot because I want to hear it from myself and I want others to hear it. I want us to really hear this that now is the time for spiritual women leaders to take center stage. And one of the things, when I came back from Maui I had a conversation with one of my mentors. I went to lunch with one of my mentors and I began to — I call these inspired rants but I began to speak with her very enthusiastically about the fact that there were a lot of spiritual leaders in the world that I admire, that I really enjoy. Joel Osteen being one of them. I love Joel Ostenn. He can move to action in a second just hearing him because I think it’s his authenticity that moves me. He just like looks so real on stage and —

R: He is amazing.

M: Yeah. Just as an amazing communicator and he just moves me to action. Anyway, I could talk about that for about 20 minutes. I’ll just — let me go back to the spiritual women thing. But I came back from Maui and I had lunch with my mentor and I was on this inspired rant about how I see all these spiritual leaders and they’re all men. Not a thing in the world wrong with men being spiritual leaders. I happen to adore men and I happen to adore men that are spirited. And I have a lot of spirited men around me. However why aren’t there women spiritual leaders and I thought of a few. I thought of Marry Anne Williamson, I’ve thought of Joyce Myers, there are — and we can say Victoria Osteen. There are some women leaders but why aren’t more of us? Why aren’t there more of us? Why aren’t there more Rosemarys, why aren’t there more Marshes, why aren’t there more of us in our everyday life. When I say take center stage I mean let us let that part of our beingness which is very natural to us as women; very natural for us to be tuned in to that feminine spirited side of ourselves. Why don’t we let more of that take center stage. When we walk out we don’t have to become a minister in this. We can if we want but we don’t have to become. We don’t have to be on a stage with thousands and thousands watching us from television although that’s fine if we want to do that. but why don’t we say that wherever we are in our life, whoever we are, whatever our expression is is that we allow that spirited aspect of our self, that creative divine part of our self take center stage in our life and why don’t we all become somewhat of a spiritual leader in our own life? And I got on this big conversation with her and she looked at me after listening to me which a good mentor — that’s what a good mentor does is really just listens to what the person wants to say, right.

R: Right.

M: And then she looked at me and she said maybe you’re the one to help make that shift. Wow. Okay now, there’s what — it’s one thing to be on an inspired conversation about something and it’s another for a mentor to look at you and say well maybe you’re the one to carry forth that message. Well, that took me a second. I thought okay. It’s one thing for me to be talking about this but for another is for me to go national, go worldwide, speak about this from the stage. Yes indeed. I started doing it and I was scared, I was wobbly. It was like wow. But I did an event in January right after I came back from Maui. I got on stage and I started talking, I told stories about how my intuition had come into the boardroom and that I was really laughed at, I’ve been made fun of because I was willing to talk about my intuitive side, my spirited side and it made the people in the room — primarily men in the room — all — actually all men in the room, they laughed at me because they felt uncomfortable with what I was saying. But at the end they gained great respect for me because my intuitive side is also very tuned in with solutions and ideas and answers and that spirited side of me is where it’s all flowing, right?

R: Right.

M: and they started to make a big shift and most important part of that is that afterwards a few of the men came to me and said my intuitive side has always been a very important part of my life as well and I have been hiding it. And now one of them — you’re going to love this. One of them left what he was doing in marketing. He’s now a teacher of intuition. Isn’t that great?

R: Get out.

M: I think that’s the great idea but when I spoke on stage and I told that story I had women come up to me afterwards and say I’m so happy that you spoke about this because I’ve been shy about sharing my spiritual intuitive side and you’ve inspired me to do that so I think that it’s — now’s the time for us as women to step into that leadership from a spiritual place whatever that means to us. It doesn’t — it can be any religion it wants to be. What I’m talking about is being really aligned with that spiritual connection whatever that connection is for you and let that guide the way.

R: Just allow it to grow and morph naturally and it will as long as you step into your power. Like you willingly — well, not willingly. You might’ve had to get yourself pulled on the stage a little bit. Making that happen, booking the event, going to the event and actually standing up there doing it takes a ton of courage and good for you for doing that. So it’s just — facing your fear and doing it anyway, right. And then it starts morphing on its own.

M: Yeah. And I think it’s your commitment. If we go back to that self leadership, my commitment is to live my value and if my value is indeed inspiring spiritual leadership among all of us especially women then I had to kind of walk my talk didn’t i?

R: Yeah.

M: And so it’s like myself responsibility to myself leaders said I’ve got to talk this out into the world and it’s really for me to speak it out and the way the room responds to it is the way the room responds to it. but for me, I have to say this because I’ve made a commitment to myself to do this so I think that — when we live from that commitment Rosemary — when we live from that place of saying I’m committed to bringing my greatest value to the world and that may put me in places where I’m uncomfortable or nervous at times. I’ve got to stay true to that commitment to bring my greatest value to the world and let it take shape and form and let it — you don’t have to do it all over night. I mean, I’ve been telling a journey since back — wow. You took me way back, a long time ago when my sons were only six months old and I started — and every single day my commitment is to learn everything we’ve been talking about, putting it into practice and being more of that for myself every single day and it’s not — I’m not there. I continue every day, I continue to believe I’m closer to being there and loving the process of finding new ways to love myself and love my values.

R: I love that. That is beautiful. Wow. Thank you so much March. You have added so much value to my day I know and my life just in this short period that we’ve been on the phone and I cannot wait for my listeners to be able to listen to this because I know that so many people — there is a big spiritual awareness that is definitely growing and I love it. I love the switch that’s happening.

M: I do too. I do too. And I believe it’s about us remembering really who we are and being so in honor that we can bring that to life. It’s really an honor to be the fullness of who we already are and that’s the journey.

R: Yes, it is. Marsh, how can they get connected with you?

M: I would love for people to get connected and there’s a couple of ways. One is I’m going to invite — can I give a free gift on the show?

R: I would love that.

M: Okay. Good. I’d love to invite everyone to come to my personal website which is marshengle.com and that’s M-A-R-S-H and them my last name is E-N-G-L-E .com. and marshengle.com and there’s a download there and Rosemary you may love this too. It’s a download of a audio book that I did with a group of amazing women. It’s called amazing woman what’s your calling. And it takes us through a six step journey into how women have discovered their true calling, what their life path has taken them through and to and how they’ve discovered their true purpose through that life path and it’s a six step process but it’s taught through the voices of women who have actually lived it. So I’d love that. It’s a 24.95 value and it’s free if you go and just subscribe or opt in. whatever that’s called on my website. You’ll get a download of that audio book and then there’s another website as well. It’s called one million called. Onemillioncalled.com and there there’s a fabulous declaration that I’ve written to inspire exactly what we’ve been talking about today in our self leadership and there’s a download there of that poster of the declaration. There’s a video there that you can watch that have women declaring. You can see women who have declared it through posters that they’re holding and really stepping into their call to lead and that’s each and every one of us in every walk of life that we can imagine. We’re all being called to lead. So those are my two gifts today.
