We had our family holiday photos taken over the weekend by the awesome Julie Khoury Photography. I always have fun coming up with our outfits for our photo shoot, which has become a yearly tradition before the holidays. I know we’ll look back and appreciate having them, especially since most of the photos we take these days are with the smartphone (not great quality.)

I like to go for coordinating looks, not totally matchy matchy, with pops of nice bold color. There are so many resources on Pinterest to get ideas, and last year I pulled up some great advice from Keri Meyers, a fabulous photographer in the Seattle area. I pulled this quote from Keri’s photography site including links to the What To Wear Guides, which include great visuals.

Families and Children
-accessories, such as headbands, scarves, jewelry, jackets and hats can really add to your look
-avoid all white or all black color combos
-Avoid matching outifts, but rather try to find outfits that compliment each other
-Avoid clothing with logos and busy patterns that will distract
-Color! Splashes of color really make your photos pop!
-denim
-dress up shirts
-cowboy boots
-rain boots (we do live in Seattle)
-striped or patterned stockings/tights
-fun, flirty dress
-tutus
-props – if you have fun props, such as antique family items or items with special meaning you’d like included, please feel free to bring them

We’re a very casual family in general so we always tend to wear relaxed styles. I’m a jeans girl at heart. Lee Jeans was kind enough to provide the jeans/pants for me, John and Ronin for our photos. I loved mine because they’re very stretchy and comfortable, but also hold their shape very nicely. Ronin’s are very good looking and also sturdy, which you know a 6-year-old boy needs. John chose a carpenter jean because he loves the extra pockets, and I think they look really handsome.

We stuck with a grey/black color scheme with pops of festive red. Casual yet pulled together, I do believe. We’re very happy with how the photos turned out. Thanks again to Julie for the awesome family pics!
