The competition was previously called Professional Kiteboarding World Circuit before Richard Branson bought it and changed its name to Virgin Kitesurf World Championships (VKWC).

"I am looking forward to developing this wonderful sport together with Javier and creating an even brighter future. We want to make the Virgin Kitesurf World Championships well known across the world, and build a vibrant platform for the sport so its partners, athletes and venues can flourish," said Richard Branson, the CEO of Virgin.

Dakhla, in the southern region of Morocco, is one of country’s most attractive venues for wave riders, because it offers ideal conditions for surfers and beach lovers.

With water at 25° C throughout the year, Dakhla is an essential destination and a haven for any surfer and water sports enthusiasts.

After Dakhla, the 2015 Virgin Kitesurf World Championships will visit 11 venues, including Leucate, Egypt, Cabarete, Costa Brava, Tarifa, Fuerteventura, St. Peter-Ording, Brazil, Argentina, Hainan, and Cape Town.
