We’re in for a dry, mild spell for the next few days — and then the weather gets weird.
Today, expect a mix of sun and cloud and a high of 9. Tonight, we’ll see clearing in the evening with a low of plus 3. As for next week, there is rain and white stuff in the forecast — so far.
The Montreal police were reminding drivers on Tuesday that they have one month left to install snow tires on their cars. But with snow expected next week — more so in the Laurentians — you might want to get them installed sooner than later, if you haven’t already done so.
The loonie: At 6 a.m., the Canadian dollar was worth 74.5 cents U.S.
Coming up today:
The Suncor refinery on Cherrier St. in Montreal East will be sounding its siren.
If you hear a siren today, stay where you are and don’t panic, Montreal Gazette reporter Jason Magder writes. The city is conducting a test of the alarm signals at nine industrial plants for the third time since 2012. Residents can take advantage of the test to do their own drills in the event of a chemical spill, the city says. Alarm signals will be sounded at each of the participating plants between 2 and 2:30 p.m., and will last three minutes. They will be heard only in the areas the city believes could be at risk from a spill of toxic chemicals. Tap here to read more about the tests.
Meanwhile, Montreal mayor Denis Coderre and Toronto mayor John Tory are still in Israel on an economic mission with business leaders from a variety of sectors, with a focus on financial technology and cybersecurity. Through Nov. 18.
In Quebec City, Canadian Interuniversity Sport holds a media conference for Uteck Bowl teams Wilfrid Laurier Golden Hawks and the Laval Rouge et Or.
In Gatineau, the Canadian Museum of History marks the 175th anniversary of Sir Wilfrid Laurier’s birth with “a scholarly evening examining the historical significance of Canada’s seventh prime minister.” Tap here to read more about it.
