I’m sure it hasn’t escaped anyone’s notice that we have been away from the blog for a couple of weeks.  We have had the pleasure of holidaying in one of my favourite areas of Scotland – Orkney.

The main reason for our trip North was to attend a close friends wedding (check out my Instagram from the last couple of weeks for adorable photos of the boys in kilts!), as we were going all that way up to Orkney for a wedding I thought it would be only sensible to stay a little longer and have a proper camping holiday.

We stayed in John O’Groats the night before we caught the ferry and although it was a sunny day, the wind was pretty strong.  This was to be a taster for what was in store for us on Orkney.  If you ever go, make sure you have plenty of windproof clothing!  The sun might be warm, but the wind will definitely cool you down!

The day before we left we received a lovely parcel of summer waterproofs for the boys from Kozi Kidz.  These were much appreciated as their winter coats (also Kozi Kidz) were a bit too warm.

Our time in Orkney was fortunately quite sunny (aside the day we arrived), so although we are yet to test them out in the rain, the boys did wear them as an extra layer to keep the wind off.  Both boys loved their jackets and were more than happy to wear them.

We also have waterproof trousers for both boys, but as it wasn’t wet enough, we haven’t had a chance to use them.  However, I’m sure you will see the trousers crop up in future rainy day blog posts throughout this summer.

I was impressed at how light weight they were, but they are definitely of the same strong quality as the winter jackets.  I was a little disappointed that we couldn’t get similar bright prints like their winter coats, but littlest loved his Koster Unlined Rainbow Rain Jacket to match his wellies and Mr O was pleased with his choice of the PU Essential Rain Set in Fisherman Yellow.

The hoods are a great size and easily cover their heads to keep the wind and rain off, there are also reflector material on the back of the jackets and trousers, which would be good if you’re out on a darker day or evening.

We spent a lot of time at the beach in Orkney, we don’t live close enough to visit one regularly and so the boys can’t get enough of playing in the sand and sea.

However, we did manage to visit several interesting historical sites that I will, no doubt, be blogging more about over the next few weeks.

A favourite of the children’s was Tomb of the Eagles, mainly for the ‘skateboard’ you use to enter the tomb!

One of my favourites was the Brough of Birsay, an ancient settlement on a tidal island.

If you want to check out Kozi Kidz for their gorgeous waterproof clothing, then head over here, they really are a great kids outdoor clothing brand.
